Never seen this one before

Just having a search on ebay for some bargins and came across this Gerber model that i have never seen before, anyone got any ideas as to when it was made/what model it is??

LINK

It looks quite old and it's butterfly style which threw me and had to wait for the pics to show gerber branded on the side before i was sure it wasn't a knock off. So yeah any thoughts?

I may be mistaken, but I believe that's the military issue model.

An MPT it is! Gerber designed them for some military contract back in the 1990's, then continued making them for civilian sales.

Um, they are a bit crude by today's standards. (They were a bit crude by 1990 standards too)  :P

Cheers for the quick replies! Doesn't seem like it's worth the £20 ($40) then other than for historic value. A quick google brought up more info, does look a bit basic, but interesting to know about.

J-sews(Bob) could answer this far better than I can,but I believe that in spite of it's reputation as a finger pinching, blister making tool;the MPT has a fairly high collector status.

The edges do looked rolled.I've never handled one of the beasties in person to say with any authority if the reputation was deserved.

I'm fairly sure I read a review a few years ago where they stated the the edge's were rounded, so it wasn't as painful as the leathermans available at the time :)

I don't believe the MPT had a reputation as a finger-pincher, but it's quality of design was poor. Closed, the handles never line up. And it won't stay closed after a little use loosens it up. And despite handles that are too long, all of the blades are stubby length ones they borrowed from the old original Gerber Multi Plier.

One gets the impression that the engineering was done rather hastily.  :(
