Champion to Explorer, I need your advice

I have the chance to get my hands on a NIB Champion (old style magnifier) for my next project.

I'll turn it into an Explorer (plus scales, no main blade) but I'm wondering if the main blade slot can be used for the file (shortening it a bit, perhaps?).
