So what kind of grinds and profiles does your average multi nut like ???not just on the multi's and saks but in general as well??

For my part I love flat or convex ground spear points, and detest serations, hollow grinds and I really am not much of a fan of tanto point's either although the traditional japanese tanto point is still a thing of beauty :)

So what about you guy's? argue your favorites case ;D

Well, I guess I'm not very picky. I'm not a big fan of chisel grinds, don't usually want serrations as my only option, and also don't personally care for tantos. Hollow, flat, saber, etc. are all fine with me if its implemented well.

:D :D  your probably not wrong, good one mate ;D

But do you not find yourself having some sort of preference, if not in use, how about aesthetically ???

I mean I don't like hollow ground knifes, but they do catch the light beautifully :)

Hmm... I normally have more opinions than one man has a right to, but on this I'd have to say I don't have much of a preference. I think there are times where the grind complements the particular knife, (ie flat for SAKs, high hollow for sebenzas, Saber/Hollow for Delicas, etc.) but I wouldn't say that I have a preference towards one vs. another. ??? I'm as surprised as you :D

You'll have to do more than kill me, you'll have to deal with my ghost! (And my ghost carries a hollow-grind sword!) Shouldn't you be a big tanto fan seeing as how you're a ninja? ;D

I have hollow ground knives and flat ground knives.  I see no great advantage of one over the other.  Besides, if I was to kill a ninja or pirate for that matter, I'd use a shank for two reasons.  Reason one, SPITE.  Reason two, BECAUSE I CAN. :) :) :)

I prefer Saber or Flat grinds to Hollow grinds and full plain to partially serrated.

Although the blade characteristics are among the least important things to me when I consider a multi. Functions and ergonomics are much more important to me.

It funny but the cutting implements (blade, scissors and saw)are probably the main consideration I have when buying a multi :)

I usually look at the durability of a knife/tool and as far as the blade goes it has to be able to keep an edge without constantly beiing re-sharpened...I like flat ground blades, but I do have a few hollow-ground. I prefer spear-point blades and detest combo blades...either fully serrated or plain...not both on one blade.

Convex is a lovely grind, and once you've got the hang of it it's dead easy to sharpen too ;)

What are the advantages to a convex grind? And what's the best way to go about making one? I've never tried, but might want to take a stab at it some day...

You can do it on a mouse mate or leather belt, but it'll take you an age :o

Or you can get a big belt sander at low rpm, with a slack belt and use that to convex the edge, just be careful not to get the blade to hot, or you'll ruin the temper ::)

Maybe some one can post a link to a tutorial for you ???

I cant agree more.  I also am not fond of serrated blades for a "survival knife."

As far as I'm concerned serrated knives are fine on a rescue knife, or for jobs where you only cutting fiborous materials, and for people who can't sharpen knives ;) ;D

That is the problem.  Sharpening a serrated blade is not fun.  It is time consuming and difficult for a beginner to learn.  If you want your blade to bite into rope make the edge a little rough.  This sharpness madness is overrated big time.  Unless you are silently slitting throats of terrorists in downtown Kandahar a scalpel sharp blade is not all that necessary.  Most materials that tool users and tinkerers cut on a daily basis are not really that tough.  If they are we use wire cutters, tin snips, and saws of various types.
