So what other gerber tool's would you reccommend?
on: September 25, 2007, 02:36:04 PM
So what other tool from the gerber line up would reccommend or have used ???

I've got a back axe that I love to bit's but I wish I could get hold of the knife that goes in the base (it was sold without one at a discount) My clutch has seen a fair bit off pocket time too recently, and I used to have a micra lst that lived on my keys that was one of the sharpest knives I've ever owned :)

So what other gerbers float your boat then ???

I joke about it lots, but I really don't think anyone's Gerber education is complete without at least one MP 600.  Yes, 85% of Gerber's lineup is an MP600 variant, but it's that way for a reason.  The MP600 is the workhorse tool that Gerber has built their tool market on, and features most of their trademark innovations like the SAF T Lok and sliding head pliers.  Some versions have Fiskars scissors, and others have replaceable saws, and they come in both blunt and needle nose options.  Still don't believe me?  Half of this list is MP600's!

As a standard intro to Gerbers i would suggest the MP600 or one of its variants, unless you want something a bit smaller then go for the MP400. Both have the flickout pliers that once used you will want on every tool you own. Both are fairly cheap got both mine for around £20 with a bit of patience on eBay. I haven't tried the Freehand or Diesel yet so i will let someone else comment. If you want a big tool try either of the Legend (700 or 800) both have sprung pliers and are very ergonomic. The 800 adds a saw coupler that is very handy.

I think the MP600 would be the best to get you into them.

About the link to the eBay, I'd like to note that shipping to the UK is almost twice as much as the actual knife.

If I were to recommend a gerber tool it would be the Recoil Auto Plier or the Multiplier.  I like the Auto Plier because it is cool.  I am skeptical about the durability.  Also, the Multiplier is cool and spring loaded pliers make some jobs easier.
