Bantam Becoming a Favorite
on: April 18, 2012, 11:28:27 PM
I bought a Bantam very cheaply on eBay and when it arrived I discovered why it was so cheap...the action was full of sand   .  I popped off the scales to start the cleansing process (hold it under running water while working the blades) only to discover a cracked scale.  I ordered a new set of matte black 84mm scales not realizing there would be a cutout on one scale for the corkscrew typically found on 84mm models.   No problem, I'll just replace the one scale.   I gotta say, I'm really liking the color combo.  It reminds me of bowling shoes.  Also, she weighs next to nothing and it's easy to forget she's in your pocket.  Anyway, all the grit is gone and she snaps just perfectly.  Here she is:

Bantams are great. The combination of being only one layer thick, and only 3-1/4" long, makes them as easy to pocket carry as a Classic.

They would be about 500% better if they'd have put a Phillips on the back. I'd be ready for about 90% of everything if they did.

Look at a Victorinox Apprentice; it's a Waiter with a Phillips. :tu:

I have a mod-built alox one for sale if anyone's after one. They're lovely and thin.

Are you sure about that? I looked and only found a Wenger Apprentice, which is similar to the Victorinox Recruit.

I do remember seeing a one-off project like this, maybe a knife of the year project for some forum in the past.
