eCLIPse on a ST Spirit
on: October 15, 2010, 11:59:21 PM
I have affixed my silver eCLIPse to my new spirit. :) I can't believe I have to wait 3 days to use it. :D
It looks good, and with my tape tests, doesn't interfere with any implement usage, if you are a righty.
pics later

Here are the pics.  Enjoy :)

Coexist

Super side close up

I chose the eCLIPse for two reasons.  One, I didn't want to void the warranty or damage the tool.  Two I wanted it to be easily removable, in case I didn't like it.  I like it, and it is super easy to do.  :)

I like the low ride , and the locking feature . I might grab one . If the 3M adhesive poops the bed , worst case scenario is that the Spirit just drops to the bottom of your pocket .

Looks Good!  The other simple clip that uses an adhesive strip seems to hold up well so I think this one should as well.

Bob's modification is really to  over.   That's what Ibach should be doing.

Not to sidetrack, but wonder how one of these clips would go with a Trekker

They make a black one which I bet would look very nice.

NICE! My Spirit has the Clipdraw mod. Here's the side pic on mine.

Yours looks cleaner I feel. Which is the best site to pick up one of these clips?

Oh, and is the adhesive a 3M tape? That's what's being used for the Clipdraw system.

Should have googled before asking. It's the 3M tape, yes, according to Niteize's site.

http://www.niteize.com/products/eclipse

BTW, more pics of my Clipdraw Spirit X here: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=12106.0

It's been more than a year and the adhesive shows no sign of weakening.

This works good on the spirit, got me one black and one silver clip and one went right on my spirit. I would use my clip draw but that's being used on my original wave right now :-p

interested in this one. Manafont has them for 7.00$ apiece shipped, might be counterfeit though. will order from them and then report back. EDIT: oops found it cheaper on Dealextreme. The current licensor is the Miltner Adams Company and they call it "THE INCREDIBLE SLC™".
As stated on the webpage, the product still exists, and the inventor (Miltner Adams) terminated the license agreement with Niteize (Nite Ize). niteize offers a similar product now the HipClip .. which seems too bulky and inferior to the original offering.

Thanks for the heads up, I didn't know the original ones made by NiteIze were no longer being manufactured and that they had lost the license to make these.  I'm kind of disappointed because although the new one looks nice it's not as narrow, only available in black, no metal ones are available, and no pricing deals.

I'll check out the new one which probably is better for an iphone or something like that, but the new one looks too wide for a Spirit.

the NiteIze is still being sold by US and other vendors (amazon, China/HK, ebay, price search engine). i wont recommend doing the same, but today i placed my order with dealextreme:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/nite-ize-stainless-steel-cell-phone-self-locking-clip-silver-70239

It's a Chinese/HK website (in English language) and it takes 1.0-3.0 months for them to deliver the goods. It's easier, faster, (and more expensive) to order it from some other seller!! I dont recommend buying from Dealextreme (DX.com) .. but since i know what i am doing, i buy from them. In order to say some bucks. haha

Thanks; I've had bad luck with Deal Extereme so I don't buy from them.  I have a small stash of the original clips, but I did some googling and ordered a few more because I liked the metal ones.  I also ordered some of the new ones to try.  Deal Extreme is likely to continue to have them for a while, because it would not be unusual for the factory that was making them just to keep on making them even though Niteize lost the license to make them.  It will be a long time until the US manufacturer is able to halt sales of the old ones though Chinese importers.  The factory could have also made a bundle just before the license ended.

The new Miltner Adams SLC Black CFC clip.

It comes with an extra piece of CF material that is cut to mate with the Clip and provide and attachment point so you can use the clip for a keyring or any other attachment.  This is a nice option.

The other very nice thing about the clip is that the adhesive strip is inset in the back which allows the clip to be nearly flush when mounted.  This is a nice design benefit of this composit clip.

Also unlike the pictures I saw that made the clip look a little fat, in person they look more streamlined because the top part of the clip is narrower than the base.  Still not quit as streamlined and the metal Nite-Ize version.

I feel the new MAC SLC really isn't as well suited for mounting on the Spirit or 91mm and smaller SAKs.  It's really too wide for the Spirit, and I also feel it is just too bulky for a standard sized SAK, and too wide for the narrow end of the SAK for deep pocket carry.

It's possible one could crind some of the CFC material without really affecting it significantly that it would matter for carrying a SAK.

Thanks for the kick-butt info!! Nice photos, very insightful. I agree, the CFC version look bulkier, wider and unnecessarily bigger. Am glad that i ordered the MAC's NiteIze version from DX. 5.50US$ is still money .. for what you get imho: a tiny bent piece of metal!!

I havent received my DX order yet..
And my main 'problem' is that i dont know where i should stick it to: 4 location are possible to choose from.

Just to wrap this up a bit more with the current offerings, here are a couple quick shots of the new NiteIze HipClip, sorry they are not better.

I used to love the simplicity of the clipdraw, but this is why I've abandoned it.  There simply isn't enough surface area surrounding the front screw hole to handle repeated flexing.

For the Spirit I'm still really liking the eClipSe the best, some people remove the lock if they just want a easy clip.  The HipClip seems too big to me for the Spirit, but it might look OK on a silver Spirit.  Attached is a quick shot of how it would look on a Black Spirit.
