Halloween colors... Looks like I'll be getting another Alox knife.

In the mean time, I'm lovin' the dark Wilderness.

The orange and black really works well

I don't think I could bring myself to use it though or any of the other BO models.

I agree. I see these as collector's pieces, not users. Most Black Oxide will wear off with repeated use. I have SOGs, Leatherman, etc. and the finish wears off over time.

This plus the limited edition high cost has me second guessing a purchase.  Has anyone put a lot of use on a black oxide Swiss Tool or Spirit?  I am curious what kind of patina or wear a black oxide blade shows after a lot of use.  Would they eventually end up looking like a non-polished stainless steel blade, or would they still have a darker tone?

Pictures of worn/used black oxide knifes (especially SAK's) would be highly appreciated.

Thanks! :tu:

Hi! Are you saying this based on everyone's photos, or do you have one of these yourself? I own the Victorinox 2010 Militaria Kit and I have to admit that my photos do them a LOT of justice... . I'm guessing the photographers on this thread are also eager to capture their knives in (their) best light - this is completely normal.

My photo (click for higher-res version)...

Someone else's rendition...

Has anyone put a lot of use on a black oxide Swiss Tool or Spirit?  I am curious what kind of patina or wear a black oxide blade shows after a lot of use.

It's going to be hard to get an answer so early on because AFAIK, Victorinox only recently started to post-process the blades in this fashion. However... seeing as the French Army (officers only?) has recently been issued black-oxidized SwissTool Spirits, there should be plenty of test-cases in the near-future ;p

----------

Please don't get me wrong, I really, really love the idea and intended look of these two Alox "Wilderness" SAKs. I also read on the 'net that "...Victorinox is constantly improving their black-oxidation process..." so the wilderness could very well be examples of said improvements! If anyone can confirm the improvement, then I will gladly add one to my collection!

Speaking of which... can anyone tell me where I can purchase one within the EU/CH? No disrespect to felinevet (a great cause, btw - having had an American Ragdoll for over eighteen years...) intended but it makes little sense for me to order a SAK "commissioned" in CH from US - the shipping costs alone would be prohibitive... thanks!
