Not worth it.
on: October 20, 2010, 08:46:35 PM
I purchase two of these batteries to run my Surefire 8ax Commander (longer runtimes).

http://www.batteryspace.com/flashlightbattery36v3300mahnimhsticksurefire9b8axandl7lights.aspx

Seemed reasonable enough, so I paid with exchange, and their shipping charges $60.  Now UPS
arrives at the door wanting another $25 (brokerage fee).  So all in all for these two budget batteries originally
priced at $16 ea. they cost me just over $80.  All I can hope for is that they serve me well.  It probably will
be the last time I pick something up "like that" Stateside though.  Thank goodness they weren't Lithium batteries
because UPS charges extra to transport Lith batt's now and it isn't cheap.  :-\

Hope they at least work well for you.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Ugh.  I never, NEVER use UPS anymore for shipping due to the crazy fees.  I'd suggest first class mail international or perhaps priority.

Both may incur taxes with a $5-8 fee (sometimes) but not the crazy $25 UPS charges!

Hope the batteries work out.

Thanks guys, I'll pay more attention to this when I order stuff in the future.  I guess I feel a bit better
if I look at it having paid total $40 ea. shipped, but then again that's only if they perform well!

Damn shame they need to rob folks  >:(

Lesson learned about UPS anyway, and you (and many others who I'm sure would thank you) won't be bending over for them again.

Our PO has a charge of something like £8 "administration" fee they tag on to any charges - daylight fricking robbery

One of the fine folks on CPF had linked me to the batteries saying he had bought them and was quite happy
with them and they charge up fine on the stock Surefire charger.  They were $7 cheaper than the Surefire
nicads. These have nimih and more capacity, 3300ma.
Anyhow lesson learned.  UPS is finished with me as a customer and obviously companies who insist International Shipping be done via them.

Thanks guys/gals for your support.  :)

p.s funny thing but I emailed the company who sold me the batteries about shipping, and he nicely explained
about it and international brokerage fee's etc, and then did add, if I didn't want them to just abandon
the shipment and "no refund" would be issued.  As the young people like to say  "Ya OK!" ::)  At that point I'd
be out $60.

Yeah that's the problem with getting links from Americans, good deals for them often translate to bend over to shipping agency for Canadians. Always do a mock check out and see what shipping is, and what method do they use.

I did do the above partially except for method of shipment.  :)

Yes, UPS is insane when it comes to their brokerage fees.  FedEx is much better in that respect, and USPS has none.

Unfortunately that's all that batteryspace uses, which is also the reason why I don't buy anything from them.

If it comes from the US and cannot be shipped via USPS, I'll find some other supplier.

USPS (well canada post) does have it if you get nailed, $5 for 1st class and $8 for priority/express. Thou with UPS it's 100% you will get it.

ah, this is turning into something a bit laughable and of course patience.  :-\  The batteries won't work until I figure a way to draw negative input.
I noticed that on the stock surefire b90 batteries they draw both power source neg & positive from the top of the battery via the two springs. Twist the head and it compresses both the springs one outer one inner onto the neg & pos leads and turns the light on.
These aftermarket batteries charged up great and fit into the tube nicely but I have to figure out a way to draw negative from the bottom of the battery since they are not like the surefire batts which have neg at the top.
Have any of you any ideas on how to accomplish this? Just to note there is no removable tail-cap on the 8ax, nor not a spring either. Just the rubber momentary on rubber cap.

This is turning in to a heck of an adventure...
Erm... run coated wire from the contact to the top?  I'm not even sure there'd be room in the tube to do that.

I'm going to imagine that Sean is also "Cascade Range", and is sitting around hoping someone on CPF answers the question...
