Because it's a good battery.

Benner waits for the inevitable moan from all those that don't use them about the price...

>Moan<

Done.

To get them cheap most people have to order away for them and that must be a drag.  I have just over an hours
travel time + Gas to grab a box of Surefire Primaries.  I did get some rcr123 rehcargeables but they will only work
in some lights and not others and you have to be ever so mindful of voltages etc.
My next light is going to be the 4sevens Quark aa2 as I'd like to try others companies products for a bit.  I'm excited about being able to pop next door to Shoppers and be able to feed it, this alone will probably make it a
better light for me.  :)

Well I've got a EX10 (great light btw :tu:) so I'm trialing Cr123's atm, and if I like them them, I'll plump for some rechargables :)

I'll moan about it, but for other reasons than price....

Couple of these http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3273

One of these http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1251 (need small spacers for the batteries but it works fine)

Well worth it mate - you won't look back :)

Double check they can be used in those.  Terry will know I expect.

...until three years down the road when they have about 20% capacity left.  Then you'll be "looking back" for some new batteries.

Don't get me wrong, I use Li-Ion myself at times (not CR123 though), but they're a long way away from being the perfect solution, IMO.  The capacity degrades quickly over time, whether they're used or not, and the energy density of RCR123 is rather pathetic.

Fenix CR123 models, in the past, have not been perfectly compatible with RCR123.  They can be used, but you will lose the use of the low levels, as the light will basically be in direct-drive mode.

I admit that I've not kept up with Fenix in recent times though, and they may have improved the regulation circuit to work better with RCR123.

DOH!  Yeah, NiteCore....

Not a problem.  D10 and EX10 both will work perfectly with Li-Ion.  I use a 14500 in my D10 nearly every day, and it has the same circuit as the EX10.

If I had to choose from the lights that I already have, I would keep my Fenix L2D. I love my Zebralight and my other lights, too, but the L2D is just the best compromise from all of them.

60 hours on low and around 160 lumens on high (if I remember correctly), Fenix quality. That's a superb flashlight. :tu:

I'll have to give that a +1.

I've owned several L2Ds in the past, and I still have one left that I just can't justify getting rid of--the first one I ever bought.  Oddly, it's one of the very early P4 binned ones, and I kept it because it has the best beam quality I've seen in any L2D.  There's very little "Cree ring" or, more appropriately, "XR-E ring" even though it has the smooth reflector.  The later textured reflectors had a very negative effect on the throw.

Great thread topic BTW, but I still haven't answered the OP's question....  I'm leaning heavily toward the GIU, or even the CMG IUM for many reasons, but I still have to consider.

Right now, probably my iTp A2.  It is not an ideal light by any stretch, but it is one that I have on me almost constantly, and does a good job of being a light I can really-and-for-true *live* with.

If I could find something in the same/nearly-same form factor with more throw, I'd probably go with that.  That 4Sevens MiNi AA2 is really catching my eye...
Half-ass done wholeheartedly!
