Carolina Knife and Tool find.
on: November 03, 2010, 11:33:12 PM
I got very lucky yesterday at Canadian Tire. They must have found this old stock multi-tool behind a crate or something. I haven't seen one of these in years, but there it was looking lost and forlorn at the bottom of the glass case on clearance.

That's a really nice find.  :tu:  There are 3 Canadian Tires all within 10-15 minutes from me and they never have any hidden gems.  :-\
This is called a Swiss Army Knife. Do you know what Switzerland is? Switzerland is a place where they don't like to fight, so they get people to do their fighting for them while they ski and eat chocolate. - Larry David

I left one of those at a Ma and Pa hardware store recently. I am sure it is still there. Has been the last three trips in anyway.

If anyone would like me to pick it up for possible trade, let me know.

Alrighty then.. I'll stop by there soon and pick it up. I'll check the price too just to make sure it's in line with expectations. Wanna PM me a "No more than.." amount in USD? If it's priced out of that reasonable range, then I'll leave it and let ya know.

Know what I mean?

'cause I have no clue what these should retail for. I don't wanna pay too much for it and then be unable to trade it for equivalent dollars.

Canadian Tire has gone downhill in the past number of years as they, and all other retailers start cutting corners to compete with the Wal Marts that are springing up all over the place.  This means that many of their employees simply don't give a rat's ass about what they are doing, and not rotating stock properly.  That means that some boxes of old stock are often hidden in the back room and forgotten about until someone ventures back there and finds something, which invariably ends up on the discount tables at the front of nearly every store.  If you happen to be in he right place at the right time, and know what you are looking at, you can get some great deals- like the Leatherman h502 I got that was marked down from $70 to $30.

Sorry about the necro, Chako.
But.
But.
But, after looking for ages and waiting, I've found the newer version. :woohoo:

The older version is a respectable low-cost multi tool for sure, and I've posted about it before. Not as good as a Gerber Multi-Plier though. However, that said, I've been wanting to see just how bad the "updated" CK&T Gerber-like was. It's awful, terrible, and pure junk. Just what I was hoping for as a collector. :)
The guy who signed off on making the newer version ought to be pinched by a hundred Multi-Pliers. :D

Pics of the older and newer versions together and the newer one with its' sheath.

The CKT "budget Mr. Pinchys" as I call them, are really tough to find. Took me a couple years to find the Winchester one with the fine fishing head. The guts of the Winchester were garbage so I transplanted the head into a Mr. Pinchy. A literal drop-in fit. No filing or anything was needed. I also eliminated the pinching by doing this.  They seem to have quite soft steel in them too--I nearly stripped the screw taking the Winchester apart.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Winchester, Cody. The CKTs are definitely getting hard to find, especially the later NN version. :ahhh
