Oh No! I'd smurf if my ______ broke!
on: November 04, 2010, 05:31:10 PM
Think hard about this one and note that the answer can be but is not necessarily your favorite tool.  :pok:

Q: Which Knife/SAK/Multitool would you absolutely be lost without if it broke and you had to warranty it?

My 2 LM Charge Ti's. If I had to send them in, I would probably get Charge AL's in return.

I guess my Swisschamp. I bought it used and somewhat beat up from Tim. I've beat it up more. I kinda like it that way. If I sent it in I would wind up getting a new one with red scales (changed mine to black) and the new mag glass. Nothing against the new one, in fact it may actually be better, but I like that I have an old one, there's just something about having an old restored SAK that feels "right".

The Leatherman Wave, which I did break and had to send in for repair.  The Vic Spirit is keeping me company for now.

LM Pulse.  Now I've got a Spirit the Pulse isn't my most carried tool, but it's such a great MT I'd be gutted if I didn't have it to play with, even more so if I couldn't get it replaced.

Of the tools I have, which have warranties (that excludes Damascus Wave and Atwoods), I would have to say,

Kershaw A100 (which I used to use a LOT--even took it climbing to Peru  :ahhh)

and my old SAKs (1962 Soldier, and old Swiss Champion with bale)

Ditto on my Pulse and ST200.
They would probably be swapped with modern models, and I just can't have that!

My Bucklite 355.  If I had to take them up on their warranty, I'd end up with an XTract.  While it's not a bad tool, it's not remotely the same thing as the slim n' supple Bucklite.

My engraved Spirit and my "uber Kick". Since both are unique I'd smurf if they needed work.

For me it would be my ChALX.  Although I actually use my Skeletool a bit more, I have spare Skele's but only one Charge.  And not just that, but the fact this Charge is a perfect one in every aspect.  The implements all lockup nicely;  the blades are sharpened spot on;  the pocket clip snaps in place and holds firmly;  the pliers are just the right tension etc, etc.  It would be terrible if it were to break!

I'd be pretty bummed if I had to send in my modded Wave.  I still have the parts to make it original, but it would be a real pain.

I would be bummed if I had to send my Paratool away to the hospital, not because it’s my EDC (it’s retired from active duty) but since it was my first MT.

My Pulse.  I would absolutely smurf if I broke it.  LM most likely would give me a Blast(which I already have one of) and I would be very sad.

Also, the Pulse is my most used and carried tool, so the chances are pretty good that I'll break it sometime.

For me it would be my ChALX.  Although I actually use my Skeletool a bit more.

Firstly I love that you have started using the ChALX abbreviation.

Secondly I really do have to send mine in for warranty repair, for some reason the pliers have started grinding when I try to fold the tool. It feels like a roughed up washer. I just can't bring myself to part with it, even though it is currently sidelined while I am running the ST300 for trial.

I should really send it out on Monday...

Indeed, I have done it several times and every time it's difficult sending in a multitool.  I love the minor scuffing on my aluminum scales, every little nick and ding as well as how *I* sharpen the blade - these things kinda give it life if you know what I mean...  :tu:

Yea, the battlescars on my pulse are awesome.  They are all minor but they make the tool look like the companion it is.  I would be very specific with LM if I were to send it in.  I would just want the broken tool replaced, I could never part with the Pulse.

honestly, none.  a few items would take longer to replace due to modifications, but i don't EDC anything with real sentimental value.  In my opinion if something's that important then it's no longer a user and should probably be left at home.

I agree to some extent.  Like my PST, I don't love it as an EDC tool because of the lack of locks and the painful grip, but my grandfather gave it to me so it is uber important.  I would never put it in my pocket and break it.

My pulse on the other hand, was not a gift.  I got a smokin' deal on it and had wanted one forever because of what it is.  I love the tool layout, the weight is perfect, the grip is comfortable, I just love the tool.  It's just unfortunate that they don't make it anymore.  I would not be happy leaving it at home because I don't love it for the collectors value, I love it for practical applications.  Does that mean I should leave it at home?  Not in my opinion.

Soooooo.......If I break it, I'd smurf.    :D

that's what i meant.  if a tool has sentimental value to you then you should replace it and keep it in a safe place, but if you just love it because it's a good tool then by all means use it, even if it is discontinued(i prefer to use stuff that's current, though, so i can replace it if needed).

Q: Which Knife/SAK/Multitool would you absolutely be lost without if it broke and you had to warranty it?

My Crunch.  As much as I love my Super Tinker and would be emotionally distraught if its blades broke, I can go out and buy another from Wal-Mart.  The Crunch, on the other hand, is a tool I've never see in the stores.  If I had to send it in for warranty, I'd have to lug around my Vicegrip pliers until it came back.
