Powerlock in the bag! Yeah!
on: October 24, 2010, 11:40:57 PM
Just won a powerlock on the bay for $40. I really want a BO tool, and could have had one for only $10 more. I prefered the selection on the stainless version more. Specifically the inclusion of the v-cutter and the bit driver. Can't wait to try out my first SOG.

Thanks J, naturally there will be pics.

I was checking out pl's on eBay and not finding any deals. I was reading a thread here today and someone said that pl's could be had for good prices on eBay, so i checked again and sure enough there was my deal. :drink:

I don't even know. I'm not versed well enough in SOGs to even know where to start with the model makes. Perhaps when I get it I'll throw a pic in this thread and let you guys go to work. :tu:

Well, with a little bit of help from the SOG cross-chart, I believe what I have coming (hopefully tomorrow) is a S62.

I wonder if I can find someone willing to trade for a B62  :pok:  :D

Yeah, it'd be nice to have a BO, but I'm excited in any case. I've only ever owned Leatherman. Never so much as held a SOG before, I'm interested to feel the difference.

Well, the PL came in today :mail:  and all I can say is...

Damn ???

The reason I chose that listing was the tool selection, and I did not get what was advertised.

The two tools that kinda sealed the deal for me were the 1/4 bit driver and the V-cutter. Neither were there. Instead the V-cutter was replace with a plain edge blade and the bit driver was just missing completely. Call me bummed.

I sent the seller an email stating my dissatisfaction, I guess I'll see what happens next.

Edit: Oh yeah, and talk about tool clumping :pok:

Thats a bummer. I have a v-cutter and 1/4 bit driver I`ll give you. PM me your shipping address and I`ll get them headed your way.

You really don't have to do that, but if you really want to PM sent.

I had emailed the seller and she was genuinely apologetic.  She told me she had bought them wholesale and wasn't aware that she didn't put the right pic and description up. She offered a refund, but I told her I'd keep the tool despite the mix up. A good price is a good price. :tu:

:(

Well, if you didn,t get what was advertized... you should get an answer from the seller, I guess. I just hope it's going to be a positive one. He should send you the two missing tools, according to me.

Regarding the tool clumpling, I think it's a personal taste. Some people hate that, other love it (or at least don't mind). I personally don't care, as sooner or later you will remember in which position your tools are, and unscrewing a little bit the hex axle screws will help the tools to come.

Already talked with the seller.

I guess one positive thing about the tool clumping is that i can get the hard to reach smaller tools by pulling out the longer tools a little bit, and the smaller tools usually come out with them. The tool already feels pretty damn loose, i don't know if loosening the axle will have a positive or negative affect. Also, I gather this is the same with a Powerlocks, but there is some serious vertical play with the tools. It seems as though that may be a flaw in their lock design.

Well, so the axle is may be too loose.

I notice that I have to screw it after some time, as it has the tendency to loose itself.

This might help. a 10mm hex is the perfect tool for that.

Part of owning a SOG multitool is making some adjustments to suit your needs.  In my experience, some powerlocks come either too tight or too loose, but it takes only seconds and a little blue LocTite to correct it  :tu:

Doesn't the loctite prevent future customization?

Blue Loctite just stops nuts/screws etc coming loose by accident you can still tighten or remove them with tools  :salute:

I take it you did not get a PL with piano locks?  My older PL had the original locks, and it clumped like mad, but my newest addition from Sawman is a 2.0, it has piano locks and they pretty much stop the clumping.

That would be correct. No 2.0 for me I guess. I'm starting to warm up to the clumping though, my fingers aren't slim and my nails aren't long, so it might just be an advantage for me.

Some people prefer the piano locks, I happen to like the old style better along with its limited clumping.

I'm very surprised at how fond I've become of the PowerLock. I haven't carried the Wave since I got the SOG. As of yesterday the PL has come off the belt so I can give the new SuperTool 300 a test carry. Had I not been so pleased with the SOG I probably wouldn't have went for the ST, I don't really miss having the outside blades of the Wave.
