SOG Micro Toolclip. Why? Couple questions
on: November 15, 2010, 09:26:35 AM
Hello everyone.
Finally I found it! SOG Micro Tool clip in excellent condition but I have some concerns...
I have never seen Micro like this before.
Can anyone explaine to me please
- Why it doesn't have a clip?
- Why there is strange logo (not TOOLCLIP) on side?
- What's the hook on nail file?
Thank you and have a good day!

That's a new one on me.  Hopefully one of our SOG experts will be along to comment shortly.

A knockoff was my first impression as well, but TBH it could be a very early version.  They do change them around quite a bit.
I'm back!!

Looks more like one of the "new" ones, with the Phillips on the end of the handle.

Gaff:  I think you're close to the ball; you'll also note the bottle opener the new model has, too.  Still, I thought the new models had a straight blade and a file; not a nail file with wacky hook.  Pre-production/prototype model, maybe?

What does that circular logo say? RGR?  Red?

It has the cross driver like the new ones but the old style lock, and the old style clip placement (sans clip).

And that weird tool on the file.  What do you call a toolclip without a clip?  A tool?

Most odd indeed. I wonder why they didn't put the logo and the pocket clip on it? ???

Very interesting though. :)

But do most of you think this is genuine or fake? I really don’t know what to think of this, is this a prototype of the new version? Vint, how did you get this tool??

The new phillips on the plier handle to me is a sign its a newer version. Maybe its a pre production or something for a company from sog. I don't think its fake, it coming from seki, japan is in my opinion is a good indication its real.

I bought it at gun show.
In worse case scenario  ::) (fake) I can return it to vendor next gun show without any problem. But I hope it is real one. I sent e-mail and pics to SOG but they didn't reply yet.

Now that I think about it, I think it's a frankenstein model; the new models are made in China, not Japan, and they have PE blades and a file, whereas this has the serrated blade from the old model, and an unknown file/hook combination.  Does Chris still come around?  Maybe he could provide an answer.  Fake or not, I'd not mind one, myself.
