I already threw out the packaging, but I'm pretty sure it's made in China. The quality is good thou, nothing wrong so far.

Given a proper sharpening, I don't see why the blade couldn't function as a reasonable, if chisel ground, knife. The only thing that keeps it from performing like a knife is the lack of a sharp knife edge.
