How are we all getting on with Dual Density Scales .
on: November 08, 2010, 02:32:12 PM
Its gone rather quiet on the DD scene lately and I was wondering how people are getting on with them .I imagine no news is good news and people have little to complain about .
I own a Dual Pro , its the model with the std OH part serrated blade , curved serrated OH rescue blade and corkscrew along with the normal can , bottle opener and awl .I've had it a while now and its certainly earned a place in my EDC .Try as I might I can't actualy fault it . Its been used in heavy rain in the dark , with and without gloves and you all know how I like Vics serrations for cutting rope etc. I couldn't have wished for a better knife .

So how are you getting on with yours ? As always pics welcome  :D

I rather enjoy my Soldier; granted, I did kinda leave it back home... at least I hope I did, otherwise it's in the box, so it'll be a while before I could find it; when I want to carry it, I have to "make due" with my OH Forester.  I, personally, prefer the green and black to the red and black, but that's just a personal preference of mine.

Yeh I must admit I don't go a bundle on the colour scheme . Vic market the Dual Pro as a profesional rescue knife and quite rightly so but I would have thought they would have given it a more brightly coloured finish . The Soldier I can understand and I think the green is spot on but the Dual pro should be bright orange or yellow imo.

I liked them on the new soldier but apart from that I have none.

Should get myself a dualpro at some point, they look pretty funky.

Come on guys these things should be flying off the shelf .

Maybe we don't hear much about them because they aren't popular . Can't see that though

I think the DD scales are the best composite yet and their more sold construction remind me of some older scales which were more solid and felt much better than the current very light weight scales to me.

The Dual Pro is very nice, and I like the Nomad as well in DD.  The Master RT is a great knife if you need the file as it has a Stainless Steel cut file, and it's cut all the way to the tip.

With the economy most probably think twice about buying another tool though.

I never had a SAK with Dual Density scales in my hands yet. I would love to try, and maybe change the scales on my Trailmaster to DD scales if I like them. Any chance to buy the scales seperately?

No need (and no money) for another 111mm SAK right now...

The scales are not available separately from the factory at this time.

The only one I've got (and am likely to get) is my OH Soldier, and I'm liking it fine!  :climber:

Got my DD scaled DualproX today.  Like it very much!  The curved rescue blade snaps locked in a reassuring way.  My only quibble is the lack of tweezers and toothpick but that isn't a huge deal.

Providing emergency cover to a rallying event tomorrow so I may just need to use it in anger :D

Its about time I treated myself to a new knife. This thread inspired me to go for something a bit DD.
So...

I originally thought the forester would be best for me, having a corkscrew, which is more handy than the Soldier's philips for me, but I just liked the look of the soldier in the shop, this is the more iconic knife, so I had to get one eventually.

Excuse me for feeling jealous, but I wish my new Soldier came with the pouch you have.

Nice purchase, Jmora. :tu:  Is it an 09 or a 10 model?

the pouch wasn't inclusive, an extra 10 euros. Looks cool, I don't like having stuff on the belt though, maybe if I go camping or something it will be handy. (I saw a guy in town last week with a victorinox 111mm pouch on his belt and a puma pouch next to it - we must have another member here in Konstanz)

Its a '10 model (is there any difference?), which is significant, because I've bought old soldiers from the same shop from 07, so perhaps this means the new soldiers are shifting faster.

No difference between the models of 09 and 10 aside from the tang stamp; I was just curious. :)  It's a neat little pouch; for some reason, though, it seems quite a bit wider than what it should be for a new Soldier, but perhaps that's just me.  Thank you for the information, Jmora, I hope you enjoy your new SAK.

I've just checked, it fits the spirit too, I'm sure its the same one they use for it. Its like a condom, one size fits most.

My father has been using a DD Soldier quite a bit.  He's been using it on whitetail deer, and he loves the saw for splitting the pelvis.  He has nothing but high praises for it!  No pics, sorry :D

Its looks about right for a tracked package of that weight out of Germany.  If they're just sending it normal post its a bit of a hike  :-\

I read it and I think its normal post. A bit expensive, but they are otherwise reliable, I've bought some stuff from them.
PM me if you want it sent through me - that's 2.50 post in Germany, and then a bit less to forward it. Of course then you're paying for a two leg post trip, perhaps not worth the bother.
this one works out (marginally) cheaper:
