depends. Is this knife making reference to a particular style of knife from the past or from a particular culture? In which case it would be justified, if its just frills for no reason then it would be an expensive version of a shopping mall ninja knife.

Firstly, Sparky is right.  His link is much classier.

Secondly, I think you like it because it appears very balanced, and the oveall shape is great.  The frills etc is a case of different horses for different courses.

Personally, I like the one Sparky linked to much better; the one you like, Benner, is far too busy for me. :/  Granted, I'm also of the group who would love to have a Victorinox Heritage Soldier to carry if it wasn't about five times as expensive - and rare, perhaps especially on part of the limited exclusiveness and lack of ready replacements - if I had the chance, especially if I'm spending over $100 for a knife.  Personally, I'd skip on it, but Benner, if you like it, and you have the funds, don't let us stop you.

[Edit:  Holy smurf those knives are expensive; one is spf at $12,500, while their most expensive one is $24,000.    I think the law of diminishing returns definitely applies here; yes, some of those knives look very nice, but I'd be bonkers to pay that much for one. =/

With that said, I do really like this, though I think I'd like it more as a manual opener, and without the engraved scales; perhaps with titanium scales instead, too.  Though, this is pure sexy, albeit, perhaps slightly too long for me. ]

I've actaully handled one of these brand knives at a knife shop back home. I went in because they have the best SAK selection in the state, and I saw these knives. They had quite a few. The guy behind the counter let me open and close one that was $1100 . The action was very smooth, but I was most impressed by the copper/steel Damascus. It was the nicest blade material I have ever seen.

On a side note, if you are ever in Santa Fe NM go to Cutlery of Santa Fe. Great selection, terrible prices (sometimes more than full retail).

I think I could like the blade on a plain handle, or even the handle with a plain blade, but both together are just too much IMO.

I really love the craftsmanship.  However, I think it is ugly.  Simplicity is pretty.  If I were a king I'd carry such a folder.  However, I'm unfortunately not a king.
