Well I figure I will give it a shot. I have used the full size axx only once and to be honest I did not like it. I unfortunatly like old stuff and the fiberglass handle never really warmed up to the touch and it seemed to give a greater vibration down the shaft. Unlike my  Gransfors whitch seems to be more ridgid without a lot of torque on a miss hit. My guess is the length of the handle on the Gerber is not as well designed as it should be.

I will say however that the thing is bullett proof. Very secure in the attatchement of the head and seems that It would take being hit by a mack truck to break it.

Now the small hiking axx on the other hand is a joy to carry and use.

So I guess it comes down to what you like. new design( Norton new commando) or the old tested and reliable( Norton  original Commando)

Well I'm an old norton fan myself (750cc fastback if you've got one please)  :D

I must admit I hadn't really considered the issue of vibration :-\ , is it really off putting ???

As you know, I've been researching camp axes, and the Gerber/Fiskars are very highly rated for durability.  If I ever get mine, I'll let 'ya know how she does.

I'll be getting a splitting axe, but they also have chopping axes.  I figure I could always use the splitting axe to chop in a pinch, but you can't really use the chopping axes for splitting.

I actually hated to post my review of it, because I used it very little, but I guess it is like the Aluminum baseball bat versus wood, Wood dont vibrate as much, plus the plastic is not to my liking.

Yes Norton is great, but I wish I could get my first bike back. A 64 BSA shooting star .

I always loved the Beeza spitfire's myself, it's a shame the engine's destroyed themselves so quickly though :(
