I received a smaller version of the Stanley Yankee handyman as a gift when I was a boy in the 1960s. It had a transparent plastic handle in which the bits are stored. It worked OK for drilling wood but it was difficult to keep the bit in the screw slot when using the tool as a "push" screwdriver.
My father has a few of those from different places. Some are ok, some aren't, so it seems that there is a significant variation in manufacture.Def
