Wenger Pliers and Victorinox Pliers Poll
on: November 29, 2010, 10:47:36 AM

I just compared side by side the pliers of my Wenger Evo and my Victorinox Deluxe Tinker. Although the Vic pliers is slightly bigger and slightly thicker at 3.21mm vs. that of Wenger at 2.82 mm I equally like both.

How about you guys, which one would you prefer?

This is one feature I think wenger does almost as well as vic but I voted vic because that is what I use

I never had the chance to use the Wenger so far, but I have the Vic ones on my Cybertool and like them a lot  :tu:

I've used both from time to time. For the type of jobs they're designed for I have to go with the Wenger variant. They open wider (slip jointed), feature a no-tension spring that engages only in the open position, plus wire cutters/strippers. What's not to like. :D

Completely agree with this.  :tu:

Another vote for Wenger.

While I really quite like the Vic ones for some jobs I'll refrain from voting as I've never actually used the Wenger version. :-[

I have not used the Wenger pliers, or even the Vic ones, enough to vote either, but I like the idea behind the Wenger ones.  Now I just use my Spirit for pliers, but in the past when I worked with small things I sure could have used a Vic with pliers.  I've been collecting a few Wengers, so I'll hopefully get more of a chance to test their pliers in the near future.  I suspect, like most tools, it depends on what you use them for the most.

Conceptually they're designed for the same thing, but in practice they behave rather differently.  The Vic pliers are a bit more brutish with their big teeth and thicker metal, while the Wengers are, IMHO, better at delicate stuff.  It's hard for me to pick one over the other, though I've used the Wenger more.

On the Cybertool, I actually think the Wenger pliers would work better, as I've had better luck with them in tech applications.  In particular, I've used the Wenger pliers while working on computers to do stuff like pull jumper blocks and loosen particularly stubborn Phillips/hex case screws.  Also proved handy working on telecom jumpers when I used to maintain my company's phone closet.  I don't wonder if the Vic's cap crimpers don't work better though, just from a leverage standpoint...but I've never crimped a cap with either style :P
Half-ass done wholeheartedly!

Don't have vic ones and don't use the wenger much, but I like em.  So I voted Wenger

They are both good but imho the Wenger pliers are just a little better.

Wow!  Wenger has a solid lead on this one!  I'm going to keep a Wenger with small pliers handy over the next while so I have a chance to use them more.
