Bit of an odd 1908 pattern soldier
on: December 04, 2010, 05:40:58 PM

Just got a new swiss soldier and cant figure out exactly what I have got

First up a photo

Its in stunning condition but some things are a bit odd first up all the tools are very easy on the nails I have handled loads of these and never had one this easy.

The tang stamp (Wenger Switzerland with crossbow on the reverse) is very worn ... odd but on further investigation it appears that the blade has been thinned considerably.

The scales seem a little more squared off hard to show in the photo but easy to tell in the hand

my current thinking is its a full renovation job lightening the blades is far from imposible, the other thought is the factory reusing a few old blades after production of these finished in 1950.

Still a great knife and I think it may be my EDC for a while :)

Great looking knife.. :salute:
If I ever got my hands on one of these 'oldies' I seriously doubt that I'll ever need another SAK..

If you were going to the trouble of renovating it wouldn't you at least make sure you got the scales flush

I agree it does seem the most likely answer but I'm not certain.  Any chance of a picture of the sides and spine and perhaps a close up of the inside (tools open) and of the bolsters?

Its a very interesting knife that's for sure :tu:

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I gotta agree with Allen.

If I had a SAK like that, I'd be done looking for edc.

More pics as requested :) I included a Wenger and a Victorionx as a comparison the new one is on the bottom

First an inside shot

then a spine shot

Side By Side

Tools out

and a shot of the tang marks

and a close up

two more shots

Brass liners on the new one

The other two are very standard even though they are private sales :)

The addtional pictures make it clear, that it would be a wonderful addition to my collection.

Other than that, I'm now thinking it's not a restoration, but maybe just a knife not made for military issue.  You could send pictures to Wenger.
