You may have noticed I do a lot of group buys and mail forwarding here. You may want to know why I do it.
I do group buys for five reasons. The first is just to help guys out. Some stuff is cheaper or only available in America. The second reason is that I get better feedback. Better feedback means I can sell my stuff for more and buy stuff for less here. People know that I ship stuff fast and reliably so they pay (slightly) more. The third reason is that I get better at shipping each time. For example, I now know that shipments over 4 pounds internationally are crazy expensive (sorry Medic
). The fourth reason is I save money. I can split the shipping costs with others for stuff I want. On a recent groupbuy, I bought $5 worth of stuff. Alone, I would have had to pay $7 in shipping. With others, I paid 50 cents. The last reason is that I get to handle more stuff. Notice I said handle, not use. For everything I get, I check it. I make sure it is the right color and size and as far as I can tell it isn't broken. I don't cut anything with the knives or carry the bags around for a week, but imagine if I shipped the wrong knife because I didn't check the box. The first Spyderco I ever saw was from a groupbuy. I know the LAPG Jumbo Bailout bag is huge (not that it's a bad thing). Without groupbuys, I would have less money, less knowledge, and less fun.
