Need A Blade Sharpened In The UK?
on: December 11, 2010, 04:46:51 PM
So here's the background. Neil made me buy his Black G10 Spyderco UKPK  :D How happy I was to add this beauty to my EDC. The blade was sharp but not really sharp. I tried to sharpen it myself as best I could without making things worse. Then I remembered S30V being particularly hard to sharpen; keeps an edge for longer but harder to sharpen  ::)

As well as this fine emporium of shiny things I also frequent British Blades. So I asked Essexman if he knew of anyone who could help with my sharpening problem. Thankfully he pointed me towards this link  :tu:

This is a member over on British Blades called Longstrider. Word got out of his great sharpening skills / tools. If you browse through the link above you'll get an idea of his work. As far as I'm aware he does this in his own time. He charges a fair price for the work. I only got my UKPK sharpened but I think he can do all sorts of work to your knife, all you got to do is ask :D

So if you live in the UK and aren't as sharp with a whetstone [get it  :ahhh] drop a PM to Longstrider. If he can help he will, if he can't I'm sure he'll let you know :)

All I can say is my G10 UKPK is now officially scary sharp  :o Hopefully I can maintain it ongoing :D

I do hope someone will find this review of use and it didn't sound like an advert  :salute:

My FRN UKPK did not get the Longstrider treatment :D

Longstrider himself

Disclaimer: I have no connection with Longstrider other than a satisfied customer.
I checked with both Def and Longstrider before posting.

I've seen that video before, pretty impressive I'd say. :tu:  Certainly sharper than I ever go for with my knives.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

If I ever need fag papers cutting I'll know who to ask ;)  Most impressive.

Day to day I only keep my blades as sharp as I need them; if it'll slice a metre of bubble wrap with no snagging then its sharp enough :)

What are you going to use to maintain that scary edge Dan?
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Mr. Longstrider said a loaded strop should keep it maintained  :tu:

Now to make one of those; didn't you make one Tony?

Also I think a few strokes on my Smyths Sharpener wouldn't hurt.
