Best horror film
on: October 09, 2007, 09:07:32 PM
I love horror films, but can never seem to find one that scares me.  I think this is because I was watching them from a young age and have become immune to them.

My most favourite horror film is Evil Dead 2.  Loads of blood and gore and Bruce Cambell is just awesome.  ;D

So, what is you favourite horror film and what one would you say is the scariest?

Go horror, see if you can scare me >:D

If your talking film's in general, then the Crow is the zenith of film making in my humble opinion :)

Erm, well good horror films IMO are Evil Dead 2 (like I had said), 28 Weeks later (so grusome its cool!!), Dawn of the dead remake, the Shinning oh and if you want a jumpy one try White noise.  Mind you wouldn't say any were scary though.

I really like the style of both of them, the first one is better in my eyes...it seems more real than the second but its still a cracking movie! Can't wait for the sequel!

The diference is that this one would make anyone :D that's older than 6 years. It makes no sense and only gets laughs when it tries to scare you (and it really tries, but it's like Stephen King just forgot what scary means).

Though not a horror film have you seen "battle royale?"  That is a perfect example of a "feel good movie." :)

I don't do the horror movie thing much.  I find they are for the most part poorly written, poorly acted and little more than an excuse to have a gory scene or naked teenager, both of which I can see online any time, and with a much smaller time investment.

If I had to choose one I liked and I use the term loosely, I would have to say "Shocker" but then that might just have been because of the cool soundtrack!  Coem to think of it, there have been some really good songs coming out of horror movies, like the infamous Man Behind the Mask by Alice Cooper!

Don't think I could name a scariest, but I have many that I have liked. Of note, many of the serial killer movies are based on a guy named Ed Gein. His real story is probably the most unnerving to me. To learn more about Ed Gein, go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Gein

Anyhow, some (not all)  that I liked, in no particular order are:
The Exorcist
Psycho
Night of the Living Dead (original black and white)
The Shining
Hellraiser
The Grudge
Silence of the Lambs
Phantasm
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Halloween

Now I also like many of the old classics:
Frankenstein
Dracula
The Wolfman
The Mummy
Nosferatu

Hellraiser is good too.  Got a bit silly when they got to the fourth though.

How about Nightmare on Elm Street? As a teenager, about 3/4 of the way through the movie I had to escort my girlfriend out of the theater because she was so shaken up.

Hmmm, I should rent it sometime and see if it was really all that scary.

Don't bother, it really wasn't.  Quite comical at times actually.

My father is fond of an old story in which he as a young man, sat behind a girl in his class at the movie house.  The movie was Dracula, and the style at the time (as if there was anything like style in Blind River!) was to wear your old boots untied and flopping around.  He snuck into the seat behind her, and during one particularly intense scene he slowly drew her hair back and bit her neck.  He was amazed that she didn't even budge until a few minutes later he noticed his socks were wet!

The boots were on, and almost full!

I don't know how true the story is, but it's always a good laugh when Dad tells it!

My father is a strange one all right.  He insists he doesn't like horror movies, but he watches them all the time.  The worst part is, they affect him pretty badly, and he gets horrible nightmares.  Dad saw lots in the military in his day, and I am certain these kinds of things trigger old memories in his dreams.  Otherwise I can't see a man like my father being affected that much- he's pretty solid.  You should hear him yell "Get into it Lamontagne, it's only smurf and hands are washable!" quoting his old drill seargent!

But, he keeps watching them, so I guess it's his own darned fault!  My wife likes horror films, so he uses her as an excuse.  He watches cartoons so he'll be able to talk to my three year old nephew and he watches horror movies so he'll have something to talk to Kim about!

Well many war films have little or nothing to do with the war!  I don't recall The Duke storming Normandy and single handedly sending the Nazis running before shooting all 2,000 of them dead with a single clip....
