Cybertool Lite... new LED?
on: January 18, 2011, 03:56:21 AM
Hey all,

Been a long time since I posted here.

A few years back I seem to remember that Vic was looking at putting new LEDs in their knifes with lights.  One of the things I was disappointed in with my original CyberTool Lite was that the light just didn't seem that bright.

Thinking about getting a new CT as mine it starting to get pretty worn and damaged, but still trying to decide between the Lite or the 41.  A brighter light might tip the scales...

You just can't get much light out of th dinky little led and batteries in cybertool, even if they are today's bleeding edge technology. If you want light you'll be much happier with a separate flashlight.

I've changed the batteries.
Same code, same brand, but fresh batteries did the miracle.
I was surprised how much light flooded from that little led.

I suppose that shelf and pocket time won't help to mantain top brightness, but at the moment, I'm happy with this (just checked. not as bright as I remember with brand new batteries, not as dim as when I received the knife).

Hey Red... sounds like the Cybertool has been really working for you.

Right now the new LED that is a vailable in the 58mm Silvertech, Midnite Manager, Signature Lite, and Midnite MiniChamp. It is not available in the 91mm layer LED module like the Cybertool.  The light is slightly bigger, and they would need to redesign the housing for it to fit, not sure if it is maybe even too wide, but I think they could do it with the right housing as the LED packaging is very tough itself.  The new LED in the SilverTech is quite a bit brighter.

You could also look at getting the latest Photon Freedom, and attaching it to the keyring on the knife, sometimes having the light restricted in the knife is inconvienent. The Photon Freedom is much nicer than the knock-offs and uses a better power source than the Vic lights. Maybe we'll see a new LED soon though for the 91mm module.

By the way, depending on where you are located, the Cybertool 41 is getting scarce so you may want to consider that.

Oh, this certainly won't be a flashlight replacement, rather just an emergency light for those times I'm under a desk look at the back of a computer or elbow deep in a wiring "closet" and can't see real well.

That was what I was thinking... I wonder why Vic has never thought to put a scale LED on a 91?  I think it would work...
