So it's official...
on: December 16, 2010, 02:53:14 PM
I'm moving!  :) :)
Signed the lease for an apartment up in Wisconsin yesterday. Slowly gonna be moving stuff up there between now and the beginning of the new year. Getting fully moved in beginning of January. Place isn't the greatest, but it's decent enough fo the time being, and allows us to keep my GF's dog which was one of the biggest factors, and it's location is pretty convenient. Now that I know where I'm going to be living I can get back to looking for a new job finally. Soooo excited to finally really be starting the next stage of my life  :2tu: I'm a bit nervous as well naturally, but all in all I'm pretty positive about it. I know things are gonna be really tight for a while, especially before I manage to find work up there, but it's time to just take the risk and make the plunge to get life rollin' again. I think the fact that it's happening going into the new year is rather symbolic, just as my GF and I who have been best friends for over 13 years now finally got together again romantically at the beginning of this year (we dated for a couple months after high school) and it's been amazing ever since. I feel like life is really starting to come together the way it was always supposed to, so long as we can keep it from falling apart again. I won't be able to buy any new multi-tools for a while, with all money going into Ramen noodles, but I should have plenty new opportunities to actually use the things again  :tu: especially since neither one of us owns any furniture any more and we're gonna have to start over from scratch lol. OMGOMGOMG as nervous as I am, I just can't wait!  :ahhh

It feels good to have a fresh start, doesn't it?  My suggestion is to find a job- any job- as soon as possible.  Sure it may not be glamorous or exciting, but better to have some money coming in that none, even if it means you are sweeping up crumbs at the local fast food restaurant for minimum wage and maximum abuse.  Do it anyway and look for something better when you have a paycheck coming in, rather than living hand to mouth and holding off for something good, especially since not many companies will be hiring at that point- most will be downsizing since January, February and into March are the slowest periods of the year for most businesses.

And, while 'net access may seem like it's an absolute necessity these days, it's actually something you can go without, like cable TV.  Check your email at local hotspots or on your cell phone until you have some kind of income and cal afford these things.  If you play things safer, you'll be able to play a lot longer.

Oh believe me, I have no pickeyness as far as jobs go at this point. I'll take anything I can get to get the ball rolling, and build from there. Internet is something we will have right off the bat. From a practical excuse it makes looking for a job easier, in reality, my GF insists upon it lol. She makes enough money to take care of it, so it's fine. I have enough money saved to keep my end of things kept up for a while still, so it shouldn't really be "too" bad. Cable TV on the other hand isn't happening unbles it winds up being part of the internet package. I haven't had a TV in years and don't miss it. Any TV I do wanna see, I just find on the internet anyway. All the utilities sans electric is covered by the rent, and since all the appliances are gas, even that bill should prove minimal. My GF's car is paid off and she has close to no debt. Between what my GF brings in, and how much I have in the bank, so long as we're careful I don't think it'll be too bad so long as I can get some kind of income going relatively soon. With the size of the city we're moving to (Madison) I'm sure I can find "something", if push comes to shove we are prepared to make what cuts we need to eek by until spring when all the college kids go home for summer and free up jobs. Right now I literally have enough in my bank to pay my personal bills for almost another two years with zero income, and this is after having worked only like 4 of the last 12 months. Considering I should be working far sooner than that, there's plenty of wiggle room for keeping us fed, etc. We are both really, REALLY good at managing our money. So long as you guys don't convince me I suddenly need the new BO Spirit X with Stay Glo Plus scales,125 lumen LED and replaceable tungsten-carbide wire cutters  :pok:, we should do just fine.

Now, if anyone living nearby wants to help us get a mattress or couch into that place it'd be much appreciated since it's going to take some serious smurfing magic to get anything bigger than a desklamp through the entrance....

Cable is easy to live without- just about everything is available online at sites like Hulu and CastTv.com, as well as the individual network's websites.  And, for the few shows that fall through the cracks, there's always Bit Torrent, although since you are in the US I don't reccomend you use that- after all, you don't need to have the FBI come crashing through your window over an episode of Jersey Shore!  :P

Anyways, it's good to see that you've got a plan and some resources.  Sure, a lot of it will go sideways when you actually get there, but being properly prepared will allow you to conserve effort to deal with the things that don't go smoothly.

Still, good luck to you.

As much as I'd rather stay far away from food service, you are right in that it's often the first place to start looking for something fast ans easy to get. It sucks, but it's effective.
