Leatherman goes Hobo
on: October 13, 2007, 10:05:45 PM
Hey hey,

Someone on another site I go to alot came up with a Leatherman mod I thought was pretty cool. He added a fork and spoon to his LM. He says it cost him about $3 to make.

Enjoy!http://www.wildsurvive.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=72&topic=1979.0

Good find! Look out J-sews/J-saws, looks like there's a new sherrif in town :D

I'm not sure it's the most practical mod, but hey, why not? :)

Edit: The guy who made them pitched the idea to LM, but I guess they didn't bite, although they did write back.

After the rousing success the last Leatherman with a fork was  ::) I can imagine they'd be leery of trying another!

I like it!! (Why didn't any of us think of that?)  ;)

By the way, that email reply he got from Leatherman was almost exactly word-for-word what they replied back to me on the saw blade idea.  :(

I never realized that LM did a fork at one point...? I just really liked this one because it was homemade and because it was removable, not a prement mod.

I think Def was referring to the LM Flair. Not one of their best sellers. Now one of there harder to find retired tools.
I like this mod nice find.

That's exactly what I was meaning- thanks for translating Prime!   ;D

An upper crust multitool- nowadays it may fly, but at the time... well I don't think so.

Looking over the Flair ,I had one of my rare epiphanies(doctors can treat them nowadays) it makes perfectly good sense to have one in a BOB.It's one of those things sort of grow on you,for a long time I scoffed at the Flair, but I've converted.

The Flair that Def and I got off fleabay is pretty sweet, don't know how much I will use some of the ODD features on it. Overall it's a pretty interesting tool, got a cool look to it and reminds me alot of when I got my wave ( scissors like the pst II and pulse). The TiNi on the cork/bottle openers is sweet looking. Tool appears to have been "tested" at least on some products, like wine and crackers :P even though the auction said it was a display tool. Slight rust which I removed with really fine steel wool and a tooth brush to get the crumbs out. Here are some pics of it.

I'm all for modding your tools, but I don't get this. The fork and spoon already have handles, and your just adding another LARGE BULKY handle to it.  Tomorrow I'm going to attach my Surge to the end of a ball peen hammer. Do you think I can get that to fit in my sheath?

Okay, you're right, the fork and spoon thing is an absolutely ridiculous mod. (Who's gonna wanna carry the fork head and spoon head around with them everywhere? When you eat a meal, do you constantly have to keep switching out the spoon and the fork on your Charge? Or do you instead always carry two Charges everywhere?)

Hehe, that being said, I still think it's a neat idea. :)

I actually have one of those (or very very similar) and they are actually pretty nice to use, the knife is very sharp and the salt and pepper pots at the top are a great idea. The only let down is the spoon which is only good for stirring stuff, trying to eat cereals or soup with it is like making a teapot out of chocolate....

They were really popular a few years back, some even had an intergrated salt n pepper dispenser, but there pretty few and far between these days :( :(

Remember, this mod uses the quick release coupling --- so no lanyard ring or pocket clip. There's always a trade-off. Anyone out there know of a multi-tool that has a chainsaw AND pocket clip?
