Skeletool Release Date?
on: October 14, 2007, 06:35:25 AM
Has anyone heard the release date for the Skeletool? All the site says is November.

I wonder how many people will buy this tool. I will have to read Def's review when he gets one and decide, but I'm not going straight out to buy it. OK it looks very futuristic and quite nice, but a quick look at the main tools and all you see is pliers, a knife and a screwdriver. I haven't looked into it but will it be the Leatherman with the least amount of features ever??

Introducing the New, Not- So Multi Tool! :D

I don't know, I wasn't too thrilled with the idea of a minimalist tool initially, but I am curious.  Fortunately, thanks to this site, I have a built in excuse to get any tools I am even only slightly interested in! :D

I think the minimalist tool appeals to me because it's less bulky. In the environment I work in it would look out of place to carry a full size tool on my belt but I hope I can easily slide this one in a pocket. (Normally I wear dress clothes but I don't always have my coat on....oh yeah..there's also the fact that it looks kind of cool and I love new multitools.

I'd like to handle one...but I don't think I'd carry a tool that sacrifices so much just to be labeled "minimalist".  I think the Juice is minimalist, but it has lots of tools.

I'm looking forward to this tool. I might not buy it right away, but that's mostly cause I'd like to see a plain edge CX ::) It really is pretty rare that I "need" anything more than pliars, knife, and screwdrivers so it should work well for me :)

That's an interesting point- is a tool "minimalist" because of it's tool complement, or is it minimalist because of it's size?

I like to think of minimalism as versatile, effective tools condensed into the smallest available package.  You could have a SAK like the XAVT with everything but the kitchen sink, but that's not minimalist.  The Lumberjack is because it has a huge number of functions, but condensed.

I've always thought of minimalist as meaning having only the functions that I want/need. I guess size also comes into it for me, but to me it's the idea of not carrying "extra" stuff that you don't want to. I think of it definetly as a different thing for each person depending on what they use often.
Example: Lets say I find that I never use a saw, file, corkscrew, can opener, bottle opener, awl, tweezers, scissors, or toothpick, then in my mind nothing that contains all these is "minimalist". If I would want to have all these things on me "just in case", then I wouldn't call that minimalist even if it was a rather small tool.

One way to look at it,would be to think of it in terms the US military calls a "force multiplier". Many people carry a folder in addition to a multi-tool.This is one folder that gives you an extra set of pliers and drivers, and most of us here know how handy an extra pliers or driver can be.

I have to say that the Skeletool hasn't really interested me at all.  Maybe I will be after I have seen some more pics.

A warm welcome to the forums! (and a good introduction as well!)

Can't wait to hear you're impressions of them... Tell us more if you will... What interests you about the Skeletools? Have you been into Multi-Tools for a while, or are you jumping in with both feet?  :)

I just preordered one from Amazon and they said the ship date was 10 - 20 December. The CX was $79.95. I'm going to keep checking with Cabela's though - they usually get them first.

After my fiasco with the Guppie and Zilla-Tool earlier this year, I'm a bit reluctant to pre-order. Some companies get their tools in and are shipping them out weeks and weeks before other companies receive their tools. There's apparently no way to tell who is going to get theirs in first?

I seen a picture of the skeletool.  I just dont know what to say.  Pretty it is not.  I just might have to order one so that I can call it an ugly shelf ornament.  It might be a very functional tool but I would have to get past its "only a mother could love this" look.

I chew up my hand on the locks on my Charge every time I reach into my pocket past it even though I've smoothed off the sharp ridges with a Dremel, so I'm really looking forward to a smaller one-hander LM with a pocket clip.  I can live with the looks.  It's cool in the same way a Hummer 3 is to me.

It has its good points.  The H3 I am not sure about.  It is a chevy trailblazer with a body kit.  Not slamming on the trailblazer but it is not the best offroad vehicle.

I have to admit.... the only reason I wanted a Skeletool initially was because of the carabiner. Now, I couldn't care less about the Skeletool since I got a Vic Spirit. To each, their own.

I'm not sayin' the Hummer is a quality piece, I'm just commenting on the quirky rugged look that I think the Skeletool has as well.
