Awesome snag!  Those little PocketGrips weren't very popular, but I really like mine!

I can't wait to hear what you think of it when you get it, since opinions vary greatly about it!

Great score! It's good to see Wengers get more action than they did a couple years ago.back then,a Wenger could languish for seemingly months before getting sold, even the 120mm Rangers.

We'll have to consider a private section for members only if we want to do that since we don't want to advertise names.  The list on SOSAKOnline is also members only.

If anyone is interested in getting something like that going, please let me know and we'll certainly look into it.

I'm up for that.  A private area might enchourage more people to sign up as well.

As with the ebay thing, if I was to bid on something I would like to think it wasn't against one of you guys.  We are all trying to get the best deals and tools that we can and going into 'competition' on auctions goes against this.

Well that's what I think anyway!  :)

It's not a bad idea at all, and I am for it.  Let's just see what others think- otherwise, if it's just you and me doing it, we could just trade PM's! :p

Yeap I like that.... not only for buyers but for sellers too....
I think I got something from Def and I just noticed after the end the auction.....

Also if someone find something that they have but is a good deal they could let
other member(s) have a shot. Kind like HEADS UP !

I've done that before here. If I can't get it , why not let other "Brothers" have a chance ??? right ?

Ebay, ever man for themselves! :ahhh

I've never heard of a community having a "list" of ebay names...what would it be for?  Like if you see a fellow member bidding on something you hold off and wait for another similar item to pop up? ???

No, but that is the popular misconception.

The way it works is that if you see something that another member is on, and you are interested, contact that member and try to work something out between the two of you rather than bidding the item up on each other.  There's always the possibility that one of you will want the tool more than the other, and the one that wants it less could graciously back out so that you don't get into competition with each other, and raise prices not only for you guys, but also for future auctions for similar items.

Often, bidders get into the thrill of the chase, and bid higher than they normally would on an item simply because they want to beat the other guy.  Our resident eBay expert, Tim, has even had his auctions bid well above the Buy It Now price simply because folks got overly competitive.

In short, check with the other guy before both of you empty your wallets for it.  That's it.  And, if you can't come to some kind of an agreement, there's still time to try and outbid the other guy.

Ahh I understand now...you find out through PM/emails what your fellow member is willing to pay for the item...so it's like bidding on the side.  Or maybe sort it out through a private forum here on MT.org before we chip away dollar by dollar with 30 seconds left :ahhh

I'd be up for something like that

Yeah, kind of like bidding on the side.  You can break it down to a dollar value if you like, but as a community, we can occasionally agree on other values that have less to do with dollars and more to do with sense! :P

It's a mutual respect thing more than anything else, and for every auction you allow another member to have, you'll likely be paid back by another member not driving a price up on you.

It would be voluntary, and there wouldn't be any "punishments" or anything taken out on members that don't adhere to it.

By the way M.TEX, great score on the little Wenger. Can't wait to see a better photo. Is the Eddie Bauer version somehow different than the standard model?

Def,

I think the Ebay list is a great idea; it would decrease the amount of frustration and lessen the chance of a bidding war between members.  Of course, communication is key.

-Papacat.

P.S.  M.Tex, great steal on the Wenger by the way.

It is indeed a Snowboarder.  The big wrench in the middle is removable as well.

Well, there is now an Auction Forum, hidden to everyone except those that choose to enter.

Scroll down in the Main Index- it's just under the Non Tool Forums, and just before the Trade Sale Forums.  Please take a moment to read the rules before requesting entry.
