My 2011 knife
on:
January 11, 2011, 01:42:21 AM
First purchase of 2011.
I was looking for something to play around and have some fun with other
than just opening and closing the same old style of knives I've been
used to for so long. There's a trick to this one, and after watching some video
clips, and perusing the Spyderco Forums, I decided I'd grab one.
It's a Spyderco P'kal for those that might not be familiar with it.
Anyone else have one of these?

I've looked at it, but it seems too specialized for general use, and I don't know squat about knife fight with reverse grip, or any fights at all for that matter.

Thanks guys.
I bought it just to have fun with and become proficient with the recommended
technique of drawing and deployment not for any kind of self defense but just
for kicks.

I had one , very nice piece , should never have gifted it . If you want to play around , get a trainer . Look up a Dude handled South Narc , you'll get some insight into the design . Deadly little smurf , tried it as an EDC , worked Ok ...but .

I don't know a lot about knife shape/purpose, but I like it. It would be great for cutting twine, rope, etc.
I must say, the opening mechanisms on Spydercos are just fantastic.

I looked at some basics of fighting with this design, pretty interesting. Basiacally you hold it blade down, edge in and stab. If they don't block they get stabbed, if they block you draw the knife back and cut whatever limb they used to block you.

Yeah I have the draw, roll, and finish all down according to the video by shivworks.
That aside, it works wonders on cardboard, and anything else that might require a
hookbill style blade for. It's handle is versatile and you naturally find hold/comfort
whichever way you decide to use it. The wave pin as you can imagine being out
so far is pretty much a guaranteed deployment of the blade on draw.
It was a knife I'd always looked at curiously, trying to figure out how it worked, and
why anyone would want such a blade? All in all I'm quite happy with it and the way
it works. I'm glad I have it.
