Cutting chain link fence
on: October 17, 2007, 05:21:21 AM
I can’t find the post but it was about a leatherman failing to cut some chain link fencing. I think he was a cop trying to get a pit-bull out of a fence. *a 1st* the big question was what gage was the fence. But the thing is I needed to cut some fence and was unable to with my wave I have a picture on my phone if some1 can walk me through the process so I can post it.

this is the pic
the wire is in the jaws

That's the post you were talking about.  (and it was a Swisstool he was referring to)

Yeah the ST is a bit of a beast when it comes to cutting stuff, although if i hadn't seen dunc's video of the coat hanger i doubt i would have tried it on anything that thick, but now i know it can do that i'll try it on anything!

Came in handy the other day when i need to pull a cable through a small hole in the floorboards and couldn't be bothered shifting even more furniture to pull the carpet back to take the boards up, so i fashioned a coat hanger cable hook, worked a treat too.

Here it is again:

I've never tried cutting any steel wire that thick. Looks like you've got it up in the soft wire area of your Charge.

Did you try cutting it with the hard wire notch?

I was wondering the same thing :-\ With all this cutting talk going on I pulled out my Kick yesterday just to see what it could handle. I easily cut through a paper clip with the soft section. With the hard section I cut a small nail and wire coat hanger with ease. I cut through a steel key-ring with a little work. I ended up stopping on a galvanized dywall-type screw. I gave it a good try, and mangled the screw, but couldn't cut through it. No damage to the cutters though... I took a pic, maybe I'll post it when I get my camera around a computer.
