Thanks to Corrugated, I am the proud owner of all kinds of various SOG parts.  I believe this qualifies as a "buttload," at least from a technical standpoint.

So, what does one do when one gets a buttload of parts?  One builds a new tool!

Since I didn't previously have a PowerPlier, and since the only "matching" components (head and handles) that I had were for the PowerPlier, I decided that's what I would go for.

Unfortunately, while SOG does give you the ability to choose what tools you put into it, there are limits.  For example, in this particular tool I was limited to a maximum of 4 "long" tools such as knife blades and/or saws.  Not a big deal really, but one thing that I was surprised at was that even short tools like can openers and bottle openers had to go in the far outsides as they also get in the way of the plier heads closing.  So, you are actually limited to implements that follow the inside of the handle and don't stick up too much.

It took a while, but I finally found a combination of tools that fit, and I'm reasonably happy with.  I have three dedicated flatheads ( ::) ) as well as the ones on the can and bottle openers, the phillips driver, the Robertson driver, the 1/4" adaptor (never understood that particular doodad, but it was either that or spacers, and I didn't want any wasted space), a partially serrated blade and a small saw.  I would have liked scissors, but they are double wide and won't fit in this particular model even if I had them.

All in all, I got a very functional tool and some spare parts in case anyone else needs some, or if I just feel like changing implements around on this or any of my other SOGs!

Now I just need a sheath for it and I'm set....

You are too quick for me! :P

As you can see, I had some fun already.  The next step will be transplanting the EOD head in the buttload onto one of my existing PowerLocks.  I doubt I'll ever need a cap crimper, but I have three PowerLocks, and it might be nice to vary them up a bit!

I traded away a perfectly good SwissTool Spirit for these parts... Naturally it wasn't my Spirit, but it was still perfectly good....

I believe the socket adapter is a place to put something (I forgot the name) that lets you have standard sized bits.

Also, I can take some of those parts off your hands if you aren't planning on using them!

BTW, is there a place where I could buy plier heads? How do you guys get them?

I got an EOD set in black off eBay a while back, but haven't done anything with them yet.  There were three heads in this pile of parts, one of which I used for the PowerPlier, one is a silver EOD set and the other is for a ParaTool.  SOG says the heads and handles aren't normally available separately so my guess is these handles were scavenged somehow.

There is an adaptor available to fit the 1/4' doodad, but that's one of the bits I don't have!

I actually use the socket adapter a lot at work. It is fantastic for installing 2 way radios and small things in the dash. Best thing is it will handle all 1/4 drive so I can use torx, and any socket out there. :ahhh
