favourite collector story
on: January 22, 2011, 01:29:31 AM
what was your favourite moment as a collector? Finding a box of camo PSTs with the rare nose-picking tool at 1993 prices? [edit: no these don't exist] or finding a double marlin-spike red alox and BO australian army swisstool in your soup?

For me, so far was finding these little buggers.
there was an auction of a whole collection of SAKs, a lot of commonplace SAKs but these red alox SAKs amongst them. I made an offer for them, (rational prices, not red alox prices) and they accepted. I knew there was a marlin spike among them, but other than the single picture on the website, I didn't really know exactly what I was getting until I received them. Opening the knives up as I got them out of the package to see what they were was a cool moment.

so far when I found this

When I saw it I had to have it, I did not even look at the blades or the tang, then after paying only $2 I found out it was a Elinox :D

There have been several special events, but I would say when I received my electrogolfer from one of the masters of SAK building, I was completely blown away.

Good idea for a Thread.  I've actually had a few great experiences that might qualify.

One of my early really great ones was finding a batch of new Red-Alox Harvesters... a few were sold here and on SOSAK.  At that time I had a hard time getting $55 for them... I think the last one went for 75 to collector. Don't know why so many prefer the Farmer.

A very recent one is partially documented in this thread.  Which is part of a bigger story.

A sader story is I was estatic when I got a '64 Red soldier for a great price... but was very sad when it got lost in the mail and never arrived.  I'm hoping one day it will just appear in my mail box.

I've been able to get quite a few great knives, and I just like investigating them.

At one time I thought I would never find an Alox Technician... then I had one day I got one... man love that driver.... then one day I found I had a handful.

Life is Good!  SAKs are Awesome!

I like these stories, and accompanying photos. I haven't had any success at flea markets, you need patience and a whole day to look through people's garbage to find anything good.

My most memorable collector moment was when I bought 2 BO New Waves and a BO Blast for $65 total (tax included).
