Why just one black blade?

(Although I'm sure this has nothing to do with the reasoning for this particular knife...) I've heard that in some ocean-type settings a shiny knife can be a liabilaty for drawing unwanted attention from sharks or baracudas that think the shiny object is a fish and then attack your hand

So if you're really s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g for a reason, I guess that could be one

If you're a hardcore diver in waters where sharks may be...hopefully you've got a more specialized knife than the OHT

maybeeee.....it's for corrosion/rust resistence only on the blade because...it might be used to prepare food?

I think it's a trick of light and the position of the OHT;giving the illusion of a black blade. That, or we all have been drinking.

Seriously, Victorinox did this as a limited run, likely to test whether or not there was any interest, as well as to see how well the coatings lasted. They seemed to have done at least a couple of different types of coatings, as they seems to be some variation in it's durability from certain runs.

As to why they only coated the blades, I can only speculate that they felt that the other tools may have become scratched much easier? Perhaps they felt that the coat may cause excessive slippage in screws? I really don't know for sure.

Well sadly the coating wasn't so good on a lot of the OHT's, It must have been one of the very few Vic's to have a tiny wee fault

As for having it for corrosion resistance, it's a Victorinox so it doesn't rust anyway

My thoughts exactly. The blade is very corrosion resistant anyway. Why fix somthing that is not broke. I know that the tactical look is the in thing. However, if you were going to shank someone it would not be with an OHT. There are a lot of folding knives out there suitable for stabbing someone with a black blade that in my opinion are better suited for the job. My point is that the shiny surfaces on the other tools will give you away anyway. Why not make all of the tools black? The new swisstool spirit s in black oxide is a great idea. IT is also all black. The one black blade on this OHT is nonconformity at its finest. I just have to say that it just doesent look all that great like all the other Victorinox tools.

I just think that together with the handle, it makes the blade look cooler for those who like to show off the OH blade.

I like the knife but I have to agree with Dunc. Heineken is not the best beer in the world. It smells like fermented road kill skunk that has been bottled. Oh, wait a second, that is what it is, silly me.

In regards to that soldier stabbing a can of food...woulden't it be wiser and safer to place the tip of the knife in the lip of the can and tap it through with your palm? Then repeat a few times until you can pry half the lid up and get your food out.

But hammering a SOG into a can of corn does look cooler.

Can openers are definately better. You dont have to resharpen your blade after using the can opener.

I have heard (whether rumor or not) that the OHT is being discontinued, anyone here hear this? I think it's a great tool, and am glad I have one. If true I wonder the reasons for the end of the line? Not as pretty as other one hand openers? Not as fast? Marketing? I hope it was just a rumor, or misunderstanding, it's a great tool...

The rounder hole looks like it might have more of a protrusion in the pocket, which is one reason why I'm not a "hole" fan (though she is kinda wicked). But I will get it, because it's still a great tool!

maybe compared to something like a spydie or axis lock it is stiffer/slower IMO
