Camera straps
« on: February 20, 2011, 11:37:22 AM »
Hi mates. I just got my new piece of gear I wanted to share with you. It is a Singapore Sling camera strap by Crumpler.

I LOVE my DSLR (and my Pen, for I use both systems), but the provided straps are crap. When I go on a photo tour, I carry my camera some hours. The cheapo straps that come with the cameras usually are not convenient to carry, for they are not soft enough, not flexible enough and in most cases too short to carry the camera over the shoulder when you are not super-slim.
My new strap is easily adjustable, I can carry the camera around the neck and over the shoulder, can take pictures very fast! and it will not start hurting my neck after some time of use like cheap straps do.

I know, there are other solutions, like the fantastic Sun Snipers that are even faster to use, but in my opinion not as convenient to carry as my Crumpler. I will spend a week in Paris now, having my camera on me about ten hours a day, so I guess my new strap is worth the investment.

Do you use "extra" straps with your camera? Or are the provided straps just fine for your taste?

I really want to try out the camera strap from Sun Sniper http://www.sun-sniper.com/en.html

There is no problem that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives.

I use the same camera strap my dad used when he bought his Canon AE-1 outfit some 27 years ago.  Its a woven strap that I have tried to find a replacement for and I can't.

I never use neck straps as they are a pain in the neck and get in the way. I always use hand straps combined with a holster style camera bag for when I want to put the camera down.

A little Leatherman information.

I agree about the ones that usually come with the cameras.  I use one of these plain neoprene ones.

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I used mine on my trip to Francw now, and after one week of carrying I love it. It is so much more convenient than other straps I know, my neck did not hurt after 10 hours of carrying, and the camera was easy to use and to handle. love it!
