What would you guys do, I have received a Leatherman Charge TTi with a ruler flaw (see picture and topics below), would you guys keep this one as a strange gimmick or would you trade it under warranty for a new one without the flaw ?

Poll added for you.

The British and their polls. :D

If it's a user here's what I would do. Trade it here for a normal TTi and something else. It stays in the "MT.O collection" and you turn a little profit.

  • You're amongst friends.
It seems I'm the first person to say send it back but if it has some kind of sentimental value to you just keep it.  I'm a big Leatherman fan but not so much as to collect their flaws  :-\

I tend to agree with Sawman.  Bolting the same side handles on isn't like a stamp with the airplane upside down...it just means someone at the factory missed their coffee.  I'd rather have a functioning ruler if it's a user.
Half-ass done wholeheartedly!

  • I'm not all bad, I'm just drawn that way.
I'd keep it, but if you decide you don't want it, I'm sure someone here would swap it for a normal one :)

Thanks for the help guys, so far the result is quite clear ...

Anyway, I don't have to decide right now, so I'm going to keep my eyes on this poll for a while  ;).

If it's a user, send it back.

If it's a collection item, keep it and consider selling or trading at a later date.

Okay, a little update on the situation ...

A few days ago I got an e-mail from a nice lady at Leatherman USA in which she said that she was going to contact the belgian Leatherman importer to explain them my situation and to tell them that they should exchance my Charge TTi for a new one if I contacted them (she sent me a copy of the mail that she sent to the importer, below you can read the most important part).

Quote
Please exchange this tool for him for a new one if he contacts you. We will of course credit you for exchanging for a new tool. Please keep me informed and let me know if you have any questions.

So now I got an e-mail from the belgian importer saying that, if I want, I can trade my Charge with the flaw for a new one, but ... this would cost me 15 € (= 20.7 $) on administration fee ...  and 5 € (= 7 $ ) extra if they have to send the new tool to me.

So, the poll here is pretty obvious, and I don't feel like paying 15 € extra to the belgian importer who can just credit the exchanged Charge TTi to Leatherman USA, I already payed 157 € (= 216 $) for this tool, seems to me the importer is just trying to get some easy money (probably because I bought the tool in the Netherlands, in Belgium the Charge TTi costs 229 € (= 316 $), thanks to the importer... >:()

Anyway, I've been using the Charge TTi as my EDC for two weeks now and I love it, and I've noticed that the ruler is still very usable, when I have to measure something that's smaller than one side of the Charge, there's no problem (okay, the markings say 12, 14, ... cm instead of 2, 4, ... cm, but that's no biggie), and when I have to measure something using two sides, there's still no problem, because it doesn't matter that there are inches on the left hand side, because with something that big, I have to read the length on the right hand side (in cm).  Only problem I see is when you have to measure something long (using both sides) and you have to put a mark every 2 cm for example, that would be difficult, but I can't remember ever having to do something like that with a multitool.

I hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say here, I found it quite difficult to explain (in Dutch it would be a bit easier for me  ;))  And I must confess, first time I reread this post I was ...  ???...... :ahhh

Greetings from Belgium,

Eric
