At Home Today
on: February 25, 2011, 06:03:52 PM
I finally have a bit of time off- I can't continue with rebuilding my dishwasher until the new motor arrives, and I can't get back to work on my dryer until my friend arrives with the multimeter tonight, I've done some drywalling and have to wait for putty to dry- basically there's not a whole heck of a lot for me to be doing right now, despite there being a lot that needs to be done!

So, I'm sitting here bouncing back and forth between Mythbusters and The Red Green Show.  It's amazing the similarities between the two shows, when you really think about it.  Sure, one is a spoof of outdoors shows in a fictional lodge in the backwoods of Ontario, while the other is a science and engineering analysis of fictional ideas in San Francisco, but when you get right down to it, both shows do a lot of improvised building and using items for things they were never intended for.  And, both tend to go through a lot of duct tape....

Sure the Mythbusters have a bit more of a success ratio with their inventions than Red Green, but then Red is also a lot more imaginative.  I'd like to see the Mythbusters solder a bunch of lawn chairs to a radio tower to make bleachers for an outdoor sporting event, or turn a KCar into a power boat.  Or turn a school bus into a hot air balloon.  Or build an outdoor urinal out of cases of beer, an empty keg and a refrigerator box.

I'll bet Adam, Jamie, Tory, Kari and Grant would have their hands full trying to build all the things Red has, and yet still find time for poetry!

He's a lot like Mythbusters, only with more alcohol and a lot less science.  In one of his books he describes Possum Lodge as a place where grown men can act like cartoon animals.  Sounds like my kind of place!

Hehehe...when I was at college, we got CBC North on our cable. Loved watching Red Green. Sadly it's not a show I can find here in New Jersey. That and Inuit news broadcasts....
