Wenger Scissors
on: February 26, 2011, 12:59:58 AM
As we all know Wenger has a Springless Self-Sharpening design with serrated edges. Before they used that design there were the old plain scissors much like Victorinox uses today. When Wenger first started with the newer design the scissors did not have serrations on them. Here are some examples of those new style scissors but without serrations.

I have added a newer knife in the middle between the old knives for comparison.

Sounds like a job for North Man!

Did you notice also the older scissors were thicker at the cutting edge? The newer style scissors are beveled and serrated making them much slimmer at the cutting edge.

Hi

It is the same on the V.I.P scissors, so yes i noticed this now :) I have a V.I.P from 1976 this has no serrations with a wider edge, I have another V.I.P with same rose and this is from the 80s, perhaps early 80s since the surface is almost the same as on the 1976, on the 85mm i found in 1986 Popular mechanics the new type of scissors with serrations, so down to 1980-1986 in boys life 1981 Dec 1981 they mention new Wenger super scissors (what they mean is the springless), that came in 1976, still it is to difficult to see, it looks like the Viceroy got the new type, so maybe 1980 is the date we wonder about! Not completely sure the serration came on at the same time the shape of the edge changed? If so maybe 1980.....Best i can do at ths point??

Thanks for the info mate, I didn't know they existed.

I wish they never put those stupid serrations on there scissors :(

Absolutely agree.  I'm not quite as down on Wenger scissors as I once was but I'd still much prefer they didn't have the serrations. :-\

Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.
