That was wonderful!  I don't speak a lick of German, but the video really tells the story.   I'll have to show it to my girlfriend, she's Bavarian, so maybe she can translate :D

Nice to see the floor of the Victorinox factory and some of the process. Since there is no tour at the factory... you would be finding me in the gift shop... and for the entire day!  :salute:

the blade edges aren't actually hand ground are they? that is just for show. Its ironic that it says that the steel comes from France and Germany, wasn't the original intention of Elsener to make a swiss knife so that they would not be dependent on Germany?

Great video!
I couldn't work out how the flexible steel pealed off the giant roll somehow becomes inflexible bits for the knives, I'm obviously missing something very basic here.

At around the 3:22 mark, the metal blades are being heat treated for hardness :)

From the video i see a machine grinds the sides of the blade and them the final edge is done by hand. Funny that in one of the other older videos of the vic factory, they kept the whole sharpening process a secret.

Just a guess, but,

To distinguish Victorinox from a mass produced soulless object, they want to show that hands on craftsmanship turns their blades into a traditional Swiss crafted product.

Hmmm I think it was just a marketing play, that of not showing the sharpening process, because that's not such a big deal. Here is another video that shows that step.

There's a video on the making of wusthof knives (my favourite kitchen knives) and they also use a manual, laser controlled, process to sharpen their knives.

By the way, what is the model at 0:30 (of the first post video)? It's bigger than the CT41.

I think that one is the XLT. Notice the spatula blade?
