Bear and Son opinions, anyone?
on:

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with any Bear and Son products. I saw a very pretty Barlow for sale online, and am thinking about grabbing it. However, It's not a company that I've heard much if anything about, and am wondering before I commit to getting it. Thanks!

No personal experience, but everything I've heard is largely positive. Hell, Victorinox thought they were good enough to buy the company.

jerseydevil,
Buying a new Bear & Sons is a crapshoot. You can get one that is real good, or get one that is real bad. They have no consistancy in their QC. I currently own a few newer production slippies from Bear & Son and only one of them is what I would call perfect.
And the last few a buddy of mine got were really bad. He returned them all. I have since stopped buying them. If you can get your hands on them before buying and pick out one that is solid they are really great knives. But if not it's likely you might be disappointed.

A crapshoot, huh? Well, internet gambling is illegal here in Jersey
, so maybe I'll hold off until I can actually handle one and see for myself. Thanks!

JD,
I don't want to turn you off of them as they can and do build some great knives. It's just they haven't been able to keep the QC tight. If you don't have the option of handling them before you buy I recommend only buying them when they are dirt cheap.
The last two I bought I went this route.....both wound up being a little disappointing but I got them cheap enough it didn't really matter.

2X,
Thanks, I know what you mean. This one is not exactly what I'd call dirt cheap (though I'm sure some others might
). There is a place not too far from here that carried them the last time I was there. I'll pop over there and take a look this weekend.
