I just won an auction for a really cool RR I'd never seen before. Can't wait to show it off here!

I'll tease it a little... It's allegedly a carbon steel model, with a factory error that marks it as 440 stainless. That's according to the seller anyway.

Alright, I couldn't get good lighting today, but here we go...

Rough Rider "moose" with G10 handle scales and carbon steel blades;

I've always been a fan of the pinched style bolsters.

Check out the very upswept skinning/spey blade.

I was wondering if anyone had one the the "high carbon" range.  I've just been looking at the Canoe version and was wondering what you think of the blade coating etc.  :cheers:

It just might be that I've got a bit of a RR Amber Jigged Bone "thing". :whistle:  This might even be called a collection!  I've got a Peanut, small Barlow, Spear Point Whittler, Copperhead and Mini Trapper.

Well, looking very closely at the titanium coating I can tell you it's not applied as well on the clip point as on the spey blade. There are tiny (impossible to see from any distance) imperfections in the coating. Like miniscule dots of darker color that almost look like pitting. But I think it's more of a flaw in the application or mixture of the coating, as the surface is entirely smooth. The coating seems reasonably durable, as I wasn't able to scratch it with some steel wires I have. Though I didn't try harder stainless, such as you'd find on any knife or MT, because I'm certain it would take some damage from that. So my overall assessment is you may get some cosmetic flaws in these early run carbon ones, but it doesn't seem likely to hinder the performance.
PS. This particular model was apparently one of the first high carbons produced, and as such every one has the wrong marking on the blade; it still says "440 razor sharp stainless steel" instead of the correct higher carbon steel. It's even mentioned in the SMKW listing for the knife;

Good info mate.  I think that the Canoe has just gone on my short list of "things to buy at some point". :cheers:

That's interesting about the high carbon models with 440 on the blades,I have to say it confused me and even made me think that RR was pulling a fast one , so there incorrectly marked  :-\ I have to say other than the little gap between the backsprings I'm very impressed with the high carbon Canoe I just got in, nice jigged bone collection Gareth  :salute: I got gifted a Barlow in Amber jigged bone and it's very nice  :salute:

some of the mini canoes from RR have the longer nail nick.

They may even have it on some regular ones too.
