I don't have much of a list-

Unreal Tournament- Game of eth Year
Unreal Tournament 2004
Star Craft (and Brood Wars)
Star Wars- Galactic BattleGrounds

I may be able to dig up Crimson Skies if anyone is interested in an older flight sim/air combat type game.

Most of my games are aging, but most people will likely agree, and that's what makes them greats.

Warcraft II (and Warcraft II Expansion)
Diablo (and Diablo II)
Command and Conquer (And Subsequent Titles)
Age of Empires (and Age of Empires II)
Fallout (and Fallout II)

Those are my PC picks - They are mostly newer games, I recall playing other games, flight-simulators etc for hours, but that was in such ages past I've lost the names.

Donkey Kong Country. for SNES
Mortal Kombat for SNES
some Sonic game or another for SEGA
Zelda Ocarina of Time for N64

I've probably got over 200 hours playing Playstation and Playstation 2 each, but can't really remember any games having a lasting impact.
Need for Speed maybe? Spyro?

Console games seem to have a much shorter play time.

Rise of the Triads

ha! I remember playing the demo for that at a friends house...it was awesome!  I remember the weapons looking REAL whereas every game before that has the illustrated/cartoon guns.  And the GORE!  I remember the level design being really bland though :-\

Twisted metal and oddworld were great.  I have a newr version of twisted metal for my PSP but it just isn't the same.

Doom is also great!  Hence why it was on my list.  There's a reason why many games are referred to as "Doom clones".
I'm back!!

you know in most of my fav old games the graphics suck (especially compared to todays games), some even 2D, but the way they put them together, the flow, the fun that they programmed in;

instead of "shoot everything that moves" but think and form strategies and use your own imagination and become part of the game was so cool.
I should add Halo too.

Hard to put in order so I'll just throw them out there:

Metroid (series)
Chrono Trigger
Deus Ex
Half Life (series)
The Legend Of Zelda (series)
Final Fantasy 6 (3 in the U.S.)
Super Mario World
Bioshock
Elder Scrolls II: Morrowind
Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night

Note the (series) games as they are so good as a franchise they deserve a spot on the list overall. Within the series' it would be Super Metroid, A link To The Past, and Half Life 2. Many would argue the choice of HL2 over the original especially with how groundbreaking it was for the time, but I feel that the story is a lot more cohesive in HL2. Also I didn't list Mario as a series since it's had so many spin-offs, many of which were horrible, and while the original is monumental in gaming, I feel that World was the pinnacle of the 2d series followed by SMB 3, and New Super Mario Bros. on the DS. Pretty much the same with Castlevania. Too many mediocre games, a couple bad ones, and SoTN is easily the best example, though Simon's Quest definately deserves a strong mention as well.
