Don't read anything about Victorinox knives ... don't read anything about Victorinox knives ... Hey, somebody started a topic about "The Future of Alox" ... hmmm ... Alox    ...  :ahhh.

A Vic Pioneer is definitely not a "one hand opening" knife ...  ::).

Nice SAK, lovely pics.  Though, if I'm honest, I'd always assumed you'd be taller.

C'mon man, now I'll be ordering a flippin pioneer next.  Jeez, I gotta learn to stop reading Victorinox threads.  I can usually resist the Leatherman temptation, but rarely can I avoid buying a SAK after seeing well shot photos of them.  Yours, BTW, are great!

Until recently I only owned one Victorinox SAK (Cybertool 34 - looks a lot like my avatar), but I kept reading about how great the Alox Farmer was, I took a look at the pictures and it really did look nice.  Then there was a special on Amazon and I ended up buying a Farmer & a Cadet - both very nice BTW.  The Farmer is really nice, but the Cadet is a good option for a small slim SAK that can disappear into a pocket.

I also wanted a good camping SAK and though the Huntsman looked like a pretty good choice I decided I wanted a SAK with a file, so I bought a Huntsman with a file, which Victorinox call a 'Ranger'.  It also gets a small flat screwdriver & a chisel on the back side, otherwise it is the same as the Huntsman.

I had to spend $50 on Victorinox for the special ($10 off if you spend $50) and I did that twice - Farmer + Cadet and Ranger + Trekker.  The Trekker is a pretty good camping SAK too (but no file) with a similar tool set to the Farmer, but not Alox and noticeably bigger.

Now I'm waiting for my SwissTool X to arrive which will make a total of 6 Victorinox tools in my collection.  That will be enough!  For now . . .

That is a definite possibility - I'll see how I feel about the size & weight of the SwissTool X and go from there.
I do have a LM Wave currently and it is a nice tool, but you have to open up the pliers to get at a lot of the tools and then a whole bunch of tools open up in a clump - it seems to me that the Victorinox MTs are just made a bit better.

If I'm happy to carry the bigger & heavier SwissTool then I wont worry about a Spirit at this stage, if I find it too big or heavy then I'll probably buy a Spirit at some point.

Every time I'm tricked into getting a new Vic I'll drag somebody down with me ...  >:D

I have the same problem, when I'm thinking about buying a new Leatherman, I'll think about it a lot before I actually buy it.  Perhaps also because the average Leatherman is a lot more expensive than the average Vic (at least here in Belgium).  A leatherman will always cost more than 100 Euro here, while a 4 layer Vic will set you back for 20 or 30 Euro, so when I see one in a local store, it's damn hard to resist ... ::)

And there's just something about these Victorinox knives ... I never knew this untill I bought my first one a few weeks ago (the Huntsman).  And also, when you take out a Skeletool in public here, 99% of the people look at you like you're a serial killer (let alone a MUT  :o), but nobody will look at you when you take out your trusty Swiss Army knife ... I just love it ...

For the love of God, stop talking about a Spirit ...  :twak:

1. We are here to help addicts, but only as enablers.
2. Carrying a SAK & a MT gives you more options and you will be MUCH better prepared.
3. Resistance is futile, you might as well just order one now.

The SwissTool Spirit X would be my pick - nice selection of tools.
If you are carrying a Pioneer and add a Spirit then you gain a pair of pliers + saw, file, scissors and a couple of other tools.

Have you ordered it yet?  :pok:

Some people actually avoid snapping their SAK's  ??? ??? :ahhh :ahhh :D :D

I try to avoid snapping any blade; it's blade abuse, in my opinion. :/

I am with sazabi! If you snap the blades , the edge gets a bit of free damage towards the tip when it slams on the stop ( liner and or backspring) at least when new. After much re-sharpenig it might be a different story.

It is interesting you mention this.  I have noticed this on all of my alox 84 mm Cadets, but it doesn't touch on my 84mm Recruit, or any of my 91 and 93mm knives.

The first time i notice this, was while unboxing my 08 alox victorinox soldier. Took it out of the box open the blade for close inspection ( perfect edge) snap it close, checked the other tools and alox scales ( this was my first alox model) and just before putting the soldier back in the box, opened the blade and voila! A good 6 to 8 mm worth of rolled and nicked section of edge from the tip. A few passes on 400 grit and 600 grit wetndry and all was good again!

Havin in mind how small it is, it sounds like small rattle snake  :D :D

But I wouldn't use it on heavier duty tasks, that's why I got wrench....

Yeh I have busted good quality Aussie made Sidchrome 1/4 inch ratchets  so yeh I would not push the wee ratchet past reasonable usage situations.

So far I've withstanded the urge to get me a Victorinox Spirit :D .
But I did buy myself something else ...  :-[

Damn these things are addictive ... I went to my local "army-store" to buy a nice red SwissChamp, but when the guy at the counter opened the box there it was, this beautiful black/shiny SwissChamp.  He got another box out with a red one, but I already fell for this black beast ...  ::)

Top-Gear-24, you are ok so long as you don't start using SAKWiki as a shopping list. I must add though, that buying the same knife in a different colour is one of the first warning signs of collectoritis.  :pok: :pok: :D

Stumbled onto this thread and re-read the whole thing, hard to believe that, when I started this thread, I owned no Victorinox stuff, nothing, niks, rien, nada ...

And when I read my last post I just had to laugh ...
