Sanyo Eneloop XX
on: April 05, 2011, 12:07:54 PM
So I've just heard about these new batteries from Sanyo; the Eneloop XX  :ahhh

Can someone explain what these are about? Should I move away from clean white Eneloops towards the dark side of the XX? It appears to have upped the capacity from 2000mAh to 2500mAh. Is that it?

They are priced at almost double in the UK  ::)

The capacity is greater but if I remember correctly, they are rated at about 1/3 the number of total charges.  The white ones are rated at 1500 charges, these at 500.

So, if you're happy with the capacity of your white Eneloops, I would stick with them.  If you have a device that needs a bit more runtime, these would be a good choice.

News to me.  I'm not sure the reduced number of charging cycles is worth the trade-off for what I use them for but I can see the applications.  Looking at the Sanyo site I also came across the Eneloop Lite, Glitter and Tone.

http://www.eneloop.info/products/batteries.html

OK the Tone and Glitter are just standard Eneloops with funny colours (not sure why you'd want glittery batteries myself ) but the Lites are something a little different.

Yeah, the lite is a cheaper cell with half the runtime of a normal Eneloop, and extremely low self discharge.  These would be ideal in a very low consumption device such as a wall clock or Audio/Video remote control.

I'm satisfied enough with the performance of regular Eneloops that I will not be buying any XXs, and I will likely continue to use alkalines in remotes.  I've never had a battery leak in a remote, so I have little to no concern of that happening.

There are 3 kind of Eneloops: Eneloop Lite, Eneloop and Eneloop XX.

Eneloop Lite:
   AAA - 600mAh, 2000 charges
    AA  - 1000mAh, 2000 charges

Eneloop: (the colored ones are in this category too)
    AAA -   800mAh, 1500 charges
     AA  - 2000mAh, 1500 charges

 Eneloop XX:
     AA  - 2500mAh,   500 charges

You have to choose the ones that fit your needs better. I prefer the regular Eneloops. But if you want to use them in a high end camera or a powerful flashlight, they might do the trick.

It is also good to know that white top Duracell batteries are also re-branded Eneloops, the so called [lmgtfy]Duraloops[/lmgtfy][/b], so if you have trouble finding the real ones, these are the same thing only wearing different "clothes".  :tu:

EDIT:
OK, I see that Gareth beat me to it.

I have a few of the Eneloop Lite AAAs and they work great (for a AAA flashlight), I hardly notice the 200mAh difference, and am glad to know they will give me 500 more charges then the regular ones.  They are about 20% cheaper too. :D

Thanks for the info guys  :tu:

My main devices are my Point & Shoot and my GPS. After that it's my Maglite XL100 and Fenix lights. So far I am very pleased the 'regular' Eneloops :D

After much searching I found a decent smart charger that works for me http://www.component-shop.co.uk/html/body_standard.html  [The first one] so my battery world runs relatively smoothly

My dSLR has it's own battery; perhaps if it took AA's I'd consider the Black Eneloops. I think I'll stick with the White one's; they perform well and look great :D
