My mango trees are blooming
on: April 10, 2011, 08:30:47 AM
There are 6 mango trees around our house and 4 are already in full bloom. I'm expecting to harvesrt around 5 tons of mangoes 90 days from now.

I just took this panorama shot showing the bloom of my mango trees.

What do you plan to do with them all?
All mushrooms are edible, some only once.

When the fruits are about this big we start wrapping them with old newspaper.

It will take 3 men 3 days to individually wrap the thousands of fruits.

Can you see the two men climbing on bamboo ladders.

+1 Eddie
5 tons of Mangoes = a happy Sam(my eldest son LOVES mangoes, 5 tons might be enough :D)

Eddie wrapping the fruit in newspaper does that protect the fruit  .

We can't consume the 5 tons of mangoes that will ripen almost at the same time. We sell them and retain some for our consumption and some to be given to relatives and friends.

Matt, it has been tested and proven that the newspaper wrappings protect the mangoes from mango flies that lay their eggs inside the fruits while the fruits are still young. If you don't wrap them you will be shocked to find out that all your mangoes are full of worms when you harvest them, even though there are no visible holes on the skin of then fruit.

Matt, if only you live near our place I will give Sam as many mangoes as he likes.

Are there also mangoes locally grown in Australia?

Way up north in Queensland Eddie  :tu: :D :D.
They are a lot more expensive once they have trucked them down south especially at the start of summer.
But by the middle of summer we can not complain  :D :D

Guava trees can be found anywhere here, Marcillo. This variety is our favoorite because it is mildly sweet, crunchy and has very few seeds.
