Can it be done?
on: July 28, 2012, 06:44:59 AM
I'm wanting to take the socket driver out of this sog and add scissors since they are both 2 components but I'm wondering can it be done since they won't be on the outside.

Not sure about that one - when you close the plier can you see if there's enough clearance to get anything else in there?

As a rule, I have found that you can only get away with long tools on the outside.

In order to gain the scissors you'll need to lose the saw, file, rescue cutter or blade.  The scissors only fit in one of the long slots on the outside.

SOG made this video tutorial showing how to install a scissors inside a SOG PowerLock and PowerAssist:

Ok so to remove the v cutter which is 1 component the scissors still wouldn't fit correct? So I'd also have to lose the driver? Also to remove the file its also only one component right? The problem would be that the scissors are 2 components. Ahhh I'm confused!

If I recall there should be a plastic spacer in that handle as well, because that at model comes with scissors or v-cutter, which means you should be able to remove the v-cutter and spacer, and scissors should fit.

I removed part of what I wrote because mine is a lot older than yours so it probably doesn't apply, but adding scissors is easy enough there is really no need to send it in.

Scissors can only go on the outside because of their length. The most logical route in my opinion is get rid of the V-cutter and bit driver, then add scissors and an awl.

It's pretty straightforward- I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you.  You should be able to do it in your sleep.  :D

Plain blade and scissors ordered. Also Def will I only need to remove the v-cutter? Another thing do you think the MTO logo will wear off with daily carry?

You should only have to remove one full length piece to accommodate the scissors. Its up to you which one you want to take out.

As for the logo, it should be lasered on, which means it's actually the surface of the metal that is burned, so you'd need to remove metal in order to remove that logo.  The black coating may wear off but the logo should remain.
