Too awesome. Hold it for me, we can settle when I get the orange cadets.

To confirm, PTR wood scales (exposed rivets!) are in fact high end luxury items or if you prefer, humble down to earth tools. :p

My latest SAK: a very old horn scaled Tourist. Purchased on eBay from another member here, which is awesome because it means it can go right in the collection without having to be cleaned/disinfected (SAK collecting is not a hobby for the germophobe). This is, to date, the oldest 84mm I've ever seen.

(Image removed from quote.)

Hey I remember that SAK :)
Nice photo.
You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

I too have become a real fan of the 84mm range from Victorinox.
I have all the Cellidor range, in various colours, and Matt in the 4 available colours, and am just about to start gathering in the Alox models. In the U.K. , depending on your locality, the carrying of knives can be frowned upon, with lock knives being illegal, and liable to be confiscated.
91mm SAKs are generally o.k., and acceptable, other than Air travel of course.
The 84mm models can be carried and used, even more discreetly, and my personal favourite is the Tourist, basically a scaled down Spartan but with nailfile. Also very cheap to buy as a Matt Ecoline version.
Although now retired from work, my role as Householder/Gardener/Husband/Father/Grandfather etc. etc., requires me to carry  my SAK, constantly, and even 18 month old Grandson knows which pocket to point to when the batteries need changing in one of his toys, and we need a small screwdriver !!
I live in a relatively small community, and don't need to carry a large 'Tactical' locknife, so a small 84mm SAK caters for most of my needs.
If I travel, and hike , a Huntsman always goes in the checked in luggage as well.
However, I would really like to see Victorinox develop a few more models in the 84mm range , such as 84mm versions of the Climber or Huntsman.

Unfortunately, that is highly unlikely. 84mm versions of the Huntsman and Climber were sold in the past, but were retired years ago.  84mm models with scissors are highly sought after.

What makes it even more unlikely now is the availability of the saw and scissors in the Victorinox Delemont line (Wenger 85mm). Victorinox don't want to create competing models within their lineup.

The size is close enough for me also, but I find the Victorinox saw and scissors to be considerably more effective tools than the Wenger ones, so that further widens the gap for me.

I've seen one or two hints that victorinox will be redesigning the scissors for their new Delemont range.

That plus the fact they have a wood saw for the 84mm frame and have said they want to reduce duplication I think we could end up with hybrid victorinox/wenger design.

I would love to find a serrated spartan in 84mm, or the tourist with a large serrated blade. that would be awesome.

The Tourist is the 84mm equivalent to the Spartan. There is a fully serrated blade 84mm Recruit. Might be kind of hard to find but with some MODin help around here you could get that done.

Recruit serrated blade

What years were the serrated versions made?  Were they relatively common?

Those serrations look quite aggressive and on the right side.
I can imagine they are quite useful around boats or rope climbing, especially when you have the small blade as a back up plain edge.

The 91mm Serrated Spartan is on Amazon now for $20 and up. I got my dad one for Christmas last year and it was $17 I think, just got around to ordering mine and I paid $20.

I see them new, currently at just under $17 on ebay. If you also check the used serrated Vics, there's currently one for just $3.99 + shipping.

I have nothing fancy 84mm, just two users.
A Danish color Cadet and a small Tinker. They ar both users, actually they take turns as EDCs.
The 84mm is just great in the EDC roll. Legal abot anywhere very easy to carry in pocket. I wish there were more current offerings.
Would love a 84mm compact and 84 mm climber.  Would love them to pack the Wenger 85 Scissors together with the rest victorinox implements.
