Purple Cadet and Classic today

What???  No red jelly today?  Maybe on the toast this morning..........

Like that color........ :tu:

I know I know, I'm trying to teach myself that there's more to this than Jelly. If they ever do a purple jelly scale I'll be in real trouble. But in a good way ... :dd:

Found this pics on an e-bay sell, two transition period (thinner blade tang with old stampings and crossbow) small tinkers apparently from the same period. Notice the differences in parts between them, namely the can opener, the Phillips driver, it has the current awl, but still solid scales....

Anybody have a clue how long this transition period went on...?

Hope this thread isn't too old to ask a question or two.
Mainly I'm curious about the 84mm's and I'm hoping some of you guys might be able to educate me, if even a little  :tu:

Looking at Victorinox's web site, it seems for the most part the evolution series is what currently comprises the 84mm size? I think I might also have read something about Wenger as well (?) as in, are the evolution series from a Wenger past? Most of the ones I see in this thread are older mostly discontinued models?

Anyhow, I'm hoping someone could give me just a brief history on the 84's and the evolution series or where they fit in. And, are those very popular or desireable? The Grip 14 looks like a nice little knife to me. (and sorry in advance for my ignorance of if this has all been posted before)

I'm no expert on the evolution series but I believe they are mostly Wenger-inspired with Vic filling in the gaps and switching out tools here and there. The evolution series began in 2005 around the time Wenger was going out of business and was absorbed by Victorinox completely by 2014 but kept the old Wenger factory in Delemont open.

There were many more 84mm models available up in to the mid 80's when they stopped making 84mm scissors due to factory equipment issues.  To answer your question, 84mm knives, especially those with tools outside the standard openers/blades/file are very popular among collectors and users.

Hope that helps.

BTW the Evolution series (Ex-Wenger) are actually 85mm, it's basically the Wenger models with some tools and modification's by Vic after Wenger ended and Vic started to sell them as Vic models. Great models as well.
The 84mm are classic Vic design. Same as the 91m only a little shorter and more pocket friendly

Thanks so much!
That helps quite a lot actually

BTW the Evolution series (Ex-Wenger) are actually 85mm, it's basically the Wenger models with some tools and modification's by Vic after Wenger ended and Vic started to sell them as Vic models. Great models as well.
The 84mm are classic Vic design. Same as the 91m only a little shorter and more pocket friendly

Appreciate you guys getting me up to speed. I'd only picked up bits and pieces and honestly, I don't really read much about the evolution series on this forum so I wasn't sure how popular they were/are. Yeah, seems would be a great option if from time to time the explorer or huntsman etc feel a little heavy in pocket  :)

The Evolution S557 for example, is a great Sak. Here's a recent topic with pics side by side with an Explorer  :tu:
