The cutting part is easy, now for some filework. My old Champion will do.

I started the filework on the combo tool, rounding the tip and removing the wire stripper. Nearly done!

Should be obvious by now. After finishing the curve on the inside, I´ll give it a serrated edge. It´ll be crude but functional. Then voila my new rope cutter aka gutting blade.

I switched to small files just now so progress will be slow.

Next step is beveling. I won´t have any time till Wednesday, which is good because it gives me the opportunity to think it through a little bit. Not yet sure whether to do a bevel on one or both sides. I think a one sided bevel is best, leaving the nicked side as it is.

Did some preliminary work on the grind. I decided against beveling after all; I want to keep as much of the spine as possible.

The modded combo tool now is sharp enough to cut paracord. Still needs some work though. BTW I´ll not be adding serrations.

Ronald, does it seem that the steel of the combo tool is properly hardened to use as a knife blade? I.e., do you think it will hold an edge?

Hi Nix, it´s too early to tell but I don´t think this blade has had the same hardening treatment as the standard blade.

84 is a spectacular size to carry.

I'm even considering modding a wallet to accommodate a my holy grail combo: swisscard + alox bantam.
All I know is that I don't know anything - but I can't prove it!
