Alox Sentry (2071 r+ according to the Wiki). Almost disappears in the pocket with its oval shape and thinness.

A superb example of what a "Gentleman's Knife" should be.

John

Agreed.  The oval shaped* 84mm make for excellent Gentleman's knives.

The SAKWiki refers to them as having "narrower, pointed frames" and the others having "wider, rounded frames", both of which seemed unwieldy in the context of my text. "Football" came to mind, but outside North America that would be much too confusing. If there's jargon that better characterizes the shape, I'll run with it.

They're supposedly discontinued, but if you search you'll probably fined a BNIB NOS (new, old stock) floating around. I've got several "watch knives", which is what these are called. Most are just fixed with the back opener. There's a small learning curve to using one. Doesn't take much to get past that, and then it just becomes a flick of the wrist when you find the proper place around the back to pry with the knife. I've never gotten that good, but I've seen watchmakers that are. Google for "Victorinox Watch Opener" and you should find them for well under $20. Screw down backs are another matter and there are specialized wrenches and watch case holders for that to keep from damaging the case and back.

Getting the back on properly for a "snap back" that these are use with should use a case press like I showed. Mine was dirt cheap from Harbor Freight. Beats the daylights out of tying to press a back on using your fingers or the heel of your hand, which damages more watch crystals than you could imagine.

GL finding one.

Beginning to appreciate El Cadet more &
more.  Now considering a bantam. This knife is perfect for slacks, even the slim compact is more noticeable for sure. Classic on the keychain and Cadet in the front pocket. Very nice, light, minimal combo carry.

I must admit though, I used the scissors on my compact that I had in the Jeep to prepare a couple of packages on my lunch break

Sportsman without keyring today.

What always surprises me with this SAK is that I miss the keyring. Every time. The key ring seems to divide opinion but I guess I can only conclude I worry without one.

Well... I chopped out mine on both a Tourist and a Small Tinker, and couldn't be happier. Wish i've done it sooner...  :D

I've more and more become a fan of the clean lines you get without the keyring.  My Sportsman happened to come without one and I really don't miss it.

Thanks John and Dan. Until very recently I'd rather disdained the Waiter for it's lack of complication. I have learnt that's been unfair of me and it's a great 84mm

I've been carrying a few non-corkscrew SAKs lately and today I need to tighten my glasses but am ill-equipped.

Would a Rambler have made a difference? Nearly all my glasses now can be tightened up with the Rambler micro Phillips as they're Phillips screw with one of the cross a slot in the event you don't have a Phillips.

I've also thinned the flat screwdriver on my Rambler for exactly the same reason.  :)
