Spirit vs' Crappy old Door
on: November 18, 2007, 03:17:13 AM
I have this side door in my house that was in some serious need of attention. The weather stripping was rotted out on all the sides, the paint was chipping, the door handle needed to be replaced, and some other things. For the longest time I have been carrying the LM Charge but since I put a pocket clip on my Spirit it has been my multitool of choice. The Spirit proved it's worth on this project.  I used the pliers to pull out the rotted weather stripping. Which was a real pain since it had been painted over and "sealed" in. The scissors were used to cut some carpeting away at the bottom of the door. Both flat and phillips drivers performed good, no "slipping" that is so often heard about Swisstool drivers. The real surprise was when I had to cut away the chain that holds the door from opening to far. I needed to take it off to paint the door. I was going to get my Dremel and use the cutting wheel but I figured I'd give the metal saw a go. In a little over a minute I was able cut through.

Yea, I starting using the knife to cut away the old weather stripping. However, lots of cutting, digging and prying to get it out of the door jam with that awful metal against metal sound made me switch to a SuperKnife so not to damage the Spirit blade. I forgot to mention that the chisel saw some action as well with so so results.

Truth be known, that's the kind of real life real adventures multi-tools get used for.Yeah,it's sexier and sells tools to dash up and down the Andes,or whatever, swashbuckling multi-tool in hand, but it's the mundane stuff that you and others tell other people about that really sells a tool. Thanks for sharing.

I love the pocket clip on the Spirit. The Spirit being so thin fits in your pocket really well. I don't even miss the one hand opening of the Charge that I always carried.
